THE POSITION

The Department of Labor and Industry is looking for a Labor Mediator to facilitate constructive communication between labor organizations and management. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Labor Mediator, you will be responsible for providing impartial professional mediation services to assist with labor negotiations and to provide proactive training and services to the parties. Your work will focus on conflict resolution, dispute prevention, and collaborative problem-solving to promote stable and effective labor-management relations. Work involves arranging conferences between parties, offering solutions to specific issues, studying information regarding the issues in dispute as well as the norms and practices within the specific industry in which the dispute exists, and preparing reports outlining the attending circumstances of disputes. You will also have the opportunity establish and maintain effective contacts and positive working relationships with labor unions, employers, advocates, trade associations, managerial organizations, and related civic groups.

Please note: This position will be responsible for providing mediation services primarily within the Eastern Region of Pennsylvania and on occasion assignments may be within other regions of the state. You must be able and willing to travel within the Commonwealth as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, home-headquartered
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule is on a consistently irregular, on-call basis, and routinely includes evening hours and occasional weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in the field of labor-management relations and two years of experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience; or
  • A bachelor's degree with major course work in labor-management relations, industrial management, or personnel administration and two years experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training with two years of experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience.

Other Requirements:

  • You must live in or be willing to relocate to Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery, or Chester county.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
