The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Security Lieutenant SPVR for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting to the Campus Safety Administrator or Captain of Security Services, this position is responsible for the daily supervision of subordinate personnel and the completion of assigned administrative functions for the Security and Community Service Officer Divisions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Security Lieutenant SPVR supervises Second Lieutenants, Security Officers, Community Service Officers, and Executive Drivers.
  • Complete various administrative functions which are vital to security operations this would include but is not limited to security and cso training, assisting with the hiring process, record keeping, fleet management, uniform and equipment management, assisting with background process, and conducting Internal Affairs investigations.
  • Security Lieutenants maintain a dynamic partnership with various departments within IPO and the University in order to ensure appropriate levels of services are provided.
  • In the absence of the Campus Safety Administrator or Captain of Security Services may serve as the security representative in event planning meetings.
  • Promotes a professional environment demonstrating consistency, uniformity, and ensuring adherence to departmental policy and procedure.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related/associated discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • A minimum of 2 years security, military, or law enforcement experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license, two years of driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving course upon hiring.
  • Completion of CPR, First Aid, and AED required upon hiring
  • Completion of CUPSA or prior security, military, or law enforcement based equivalent certification required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and the capability of making sound decisions under emergent situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Email and Calendar functions.
  • This position requires a strong knowledge of security operations and University policy and procedures.
  • Completion of CUPSA or prior security, military, or law enforcement based equivalent certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior Security experience within a university setting preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience with cloud-based software such as GoogleDocs.
  • Experience with parking enforcement software.

Equipment Utilized
  • University vehicles, computer workstation, Panasonic Toughpad, UKG Dimensions, Parking Enforcement Platform, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, PowerDetails Overtime Scheduling Software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position will require the incumbent to work evenings, weekends, and/or overtime.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time.
