| Job Summary |
The Senior Enterprise Network Engineer is a highly functioning seasoned IT professional that provides subject matter expert proficiency within the Enterprise Network Engineering family. He/she will develop and apply technical expertise and leadership in two or more IT disciplines that support the technical infrastructure. This includes technologies, systems, networks, data architectures, capacity planning, performance management, security, and configuration management. Serves as the senior Enterprise network engineer resource supporting the Enterprise Network Connectivity for UT Dallas environment, to include connectivity to the Internet and various research and education networks and to support related systems and services.
Management, configuration, operation, and monitoring of network security devices including switches, routers,
WAP, load balancers, and firewalls associated with the UT Dallas environment and remote sites.
Responsible for developing, testing, maintaining, installing, and/or deploying technologies. In addition, they are responsible for the establishment, development, and promotion of standard architectures, as well as hardware and software components. This role will also be the primary resource for network automation and orchestration for the enterprise campus network. This role provides consulting services to application development teams and/or customers regarding technologies and the application of specific technology standards. |
| Minimum Education and Experience |
Associate's degree and six (6) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. |
| Preferred Education and Experience |
- BS degree with minimum 7 years of experience working directly with complex network environments.
- Experience working with regional and national education and research network providers such as LEARN and Intenet2
- Cisco Certified (CCENT OR CCNA) or Juniper Certified (JNCIA-Junos)
- At least 4 years of Juniper (JunOS) experience including Tier 3 senior level support.
- Extensive experience in the following areas - enterprise networking equipment, firewalls, load balancers, gateways, data and voice convergence, video services.
- Knowledge of Enterprise wireless solutions
- Extensive technical knowledge and experience of managing and maintaining large-scale, highly available, Internet facing networks
- Experience with Network Access Control solutions
- Wide-ranging experience troubleshooting multi-tier Internet applications platforms, particularly for web applications and streaming
- Deep understanding of network protocols and their applications and characteristic behaviors like IPv4/6, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, IPSEC, STP, QOS and VRRP
- Experience implementing pragmatic network security and audit.
- Good understanding of network configuration and troubleshooting on a range of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Experience working with application and network layer cryptography and virtualization
- DevOps experience (Python, Ansible, Puppet) with a heavy emphasis on network automation and orchestration
- Software Defined Networking (SDN)
- Ability to coordinate efforts of lower-level staff and manage projects independently.
- Ability to assess network efficiencies and make adjustments/recommendations for improvement.
- Good understanding of various operating systems, OS vulnerabilities and patching, third party application vulnerabilities, and patching.
- Good troubleshooting methodology and awareness of industry standards.
- Good technical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills, works well with limited supervision

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
- Responsibilities include configuration, testing, securing, and maintenance of LAN/WAN equipment and related services.
- Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves network problems.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks.
- Liaison with customers and internal teams to ensure completion of tasks.
- Analyze and rectify complex faults on the network to meet defined service levels.
- Support network investigation/performance routines to ensure network availability.
- Perform complex configuration changes. Maintain and support the LAN/WAN environment.
- Analyze, create and report on project implementation plans.
- Assist in the coaching and technical assessment of the team to aid development.
- Participate in 24O7 on-call rotation. Maintain and extend technical skills and knowledge to remain proficient in the role.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Provide engineering and support services to UT Dallas network environment.
- Evaluate and test new technology solutions and document the findings.
- Develops, implements, and maintains the University network infrastructure including, but not limited to, Layer 3 configurations on switches, routers and firewalls and new solutions to improve the resilience of the current environment.

- On-call availability for resolving network emergencies, both during regular and off-hours.

- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as network switches, computers, and peripherals.
- Must have a Texas state driver's license and the ability to drive golf carts on campus.
