Overview

Come join us at Con Edison as an AMI Operations and Solutions as a Project Specialist where you will be responsible for conducting business process review for our outage management and engineering related activities where AMI will benefit the Company. In addition, the Project Specialist will be tasked with supporting the management of a number of significant efforts in advancing the realization of AMI business value-added benefits including improving Outage Management, implementation and benefit tracking of Conservation Voltage Optimization (CVO), integration of sensors into the AMI network, improving control of meter service switches for selective load shedding, data analytics and AI projects, and conducting pilots. The Project Specialist will help design and document the new business processes and develop standard operating procedures and training for applicable organizations. The Project Specialist will develop and administer training classes and partake in train the trainer activities as well. The position will also involve supporting data analytics efforts with AMI data.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Projects are implemented in accordance with applicable contract documents, AMI vendor and Company requirements.
  • Ensure thorough and accurate documentation of as is engineering and operations processes that will be improved by AMI data.
  • Responsible for creating new business processes and supporting documentation for Outage Management.
  • Responsible for tracking and driving Smart City projects such as methane sensors, carbon monoxide sensors, and the street light control pilot project.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Projects are implemented in accordance with applicable contract documents, AMI vendor, Company, and PSC requirements.
  • Responsible for development of System Operational Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring user groups have comprehensive understanding of MDMS enabled outage tools with the MDMS, prior to AMI integration with the OMS.
  • Develop detailed requirements for AMI integration with the OMS, ensuring that Control Center Operations and other user groups have operational understanding of the use of the benefit tracking of Conservation Voltage Optimization as AMI is deployed across each network/load area, integration of sensors into the AMI network, enabling control of meter service switches for selective load shedding, as well as developing and conducting streetlight control/ monitoring pilots.
  • Acting as the central liaison between the project team and appropriate Company Departments (Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Public Affairs, Purchasing, Construction, Gas Operations, Customer Operations, and Electric Operations) and outside contractors who provide services. The Project Specialist shall lead meetings to coordinate project efforts.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of all records within the project scope, and shall ensure that all records, including reference materials, are kept current and available.
  • Oversee the budget preparation and compliance where necessary. Ensure that costs are minimized through savings in time, materials, and proper work procedures within the course of the projects.
  • Monitor the schedule throughout the project to ensure that established milestones are met throughout the project.
  • Responsible for writing technical reports and conducting technical presentations to all levels of management.
  • Perform best practice reviews with peer utilities regarding the utilization of AMI data for outage and engineering processes.
  • Assist AMI General Manager, Department Manager and Section Managers with all areas of the AMI projects including planning, training, and field implementation for AMI systems.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Lead and support data analytics efforts with AMI data to drive improvements in business and operational processes.
  • Manage rate case activities for the long-term, strategic roadmap of AMI integrations into enterprise operational systems aligning with corporate goals and requirements.
  • Ensure the development, maintenance, and adherence to comprehensive cyber response procedures impacting the organization.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree and four years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree and five years of related work experience. or
  • Associate's Degree and six years of related work experience. or
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree and Five to seven years of work experience is preferred.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Demonstrated experience of technical writing is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting project status review and other meetings is required.
  • 5-7 years Experience with electric or gas distribution engineering is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Understanding of control center operations and, in particular, outage management is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Experience with the OMS (Outage Management System) is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Project Management experience is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Knowledge of the overhead and underground distribution systems is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Knowledge of Con Edisons contract administration and procurement process detailed in the Contract Administration Manual is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Experience using NMS or an Outage Management System (OMS) during outage events is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Experience leading training classes is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Experience designing and documenting as is and to be business processes is preferred.
  • 5-7 years Experience with AI projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AMI system is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to provide off hours support as required.
