PACCAR Powertrain is seeking motivated students to join our Summer 2026 Internship Programwithin thePowertrain Aftersalesteam. This is a hands-on, technical role supporting engine teardown, inspection, diagnostics, and root-cause analysis to improve product performance and customer uptime.

Job Overview

As a Powertrain Aftersales Engineering Intern, you will support the Engine Inspection team by performing detailed engine andcomponentteardown, inspection, analysis, and documentation.You'llwork closely with experienced engineers and technicians toidentifyfailure modes, trackcomponentcondition, and support PACCAR's commitment to product quality and continuous improvement.

What to Expect

  • Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), in person

  • Duration: Minimum12 weeks

  • Location: Mount Vernon, WA

  • Start Dates: May 18, 2026, or June 22, 2026

Job Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Engine Inspection Team Supervisor to conduct engine andcomponentinspections.

  • Perform complete engine andcomponentteardowns, capturing condition, wear, and failure characteristics.

  • Document findings using photography, Microsoft PowerPoint, and structured reporting templates.

  • Use data, inspection results, and observations to develop hypotheses and preliminary root-cause analysis of failures.

  • Coordinate the return of components to suppliers or internal engineering teams as needed.

  • Track, organize, and catalog incoming engines, parts, and inspection work.

  • Communicate findings with engineering, suppliers, and cross-functional partners, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently in 3rd or 4th year of a bachelor's degree program (graduation 2026-2027) in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer, Software), other STEM fields, or related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of diesel engine operation.

  • Familiarity with metrology tools and principles.

  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Preferred:

  • Experience as a diesel technician or automotive technician.

  • Experience with engine teardown, mechanical systems, or hands-on mechanical work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift/carry up to 40lbs; push/pull up to 125 lbs.

  • Climb ladders and stairs routinely.

  • Tolerate kneeling, bending, stooping, and work at/above shoulder height.

  • Work safely with solvents, oils, greases, fuels, degreasers, paints, and solder.

  • Work in confined spaces withappropriate PPE.

  • Ability tooperateforklifts and overhead cranes (training provided if needed).
