Acentra Health is looking for a Medical Coder Supervisor to join our growing team.

Job Summary:

Acentra Health is seeking an experienced Medical Coding Supervisor to lead and oversee medical coding operations in support of accurate documentation, compliance, and optimal reimbursement. This role provides day-to-day supervision of coding staff while ensuring quality, productivity, and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.

The Medical Coding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing medical coding activities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with ICD and CPT coding guidelines. This position reviews complex medical records, provides guidance and education to coding staff, monitors productivity and quality metrics, and supports operational goals related to hospital and/or professional fee coding and reimbursement.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and support medical coding staff to ensure accurate and timely coding of medical records.
  • Review and audit coded medical records to ensure compliance with ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate sequencing of diagnoses and procedures in accordance with established coding standards.
  • Monitor DRG/APC assignment accuracy and support optimal reimbursement practices.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and ongoing education to coding staff to improve quality and productivity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for coding-related questions and complex cases.
  • Monitor workload distribution, productivity metrics, and contract deliverables.
  • Assist with training new coders and supporting continuing education initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership and other departments to resolve coding, documentation, and reimbursement issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policies, including HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.
  • Serve as backup to administrative and operational functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to all corporate policies including policies related to HIPAA and its Privacy and Security Rules.

The list of accountabilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other education- and experience-related duties that management may deem necessary from time to time.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current RHIT or RHIA credential required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of acute care medical coding experience required.
  • Certification as a Coding Specialist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in a medical coding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of DRG/APC reimbursement methodologies.
  • Experience with coding and abstracting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
