Job Summary:

The Lead PET CT Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality PET CT imaging, ensuring adherence to protocol, and supporting the clinical and operational functions of the PET CT department. This role also ensures compliance with regulatory standards and contributes to patient care, staff training, and departmental performance.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Leads and monitors the daily processes of the PET CT department, ensuring adherence to policies, regulatory standards, and operational guidelines. Collaborates with management to maintain high levels of clinical and operational performance.
  • Serves as a preceptor for newly hired PET CT staff, ensuring proper training and integration into the department.
  • Maintains the staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
  • Monitors and manages the inventory of supplies and materials to ensure adequate stock and prevent operational disruptions.
  • Tracks and reports patient satisfaction scores for the department, developing action plans when scores fall below target goals.
  • Collaborates with management on subject research, evaluating and recommending new programs, services, technologies, and operational tools to improve the PET CT service line.
  • Prepares patients for PET CT exams, confirming physician orders, verifying patient identity, and collecting relevant medical histories. Performs PET CT procedures across all patient age groups while maintaining clinical competency.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals and contrast agents following established guidelines. Reviews and ensures high-quality PET CT images for accurate diagnostic information.
  • Records and files patient data, procedural details, and billing information to maintain accurate department records. Reports technical quality of images to supervisors.
  • Provides reports on daily volume, wait times, and end-of-month statistics for management.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with ACR accreditation requirements and supports re-accreditation processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • VA State Radiologic Technologist license is required for all outpatient facilities.
  • ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology or NMTCB registered and documented training on the provision of diagnostic CT exams required.
  • Advanced level certification by the ARRT or NMTCB in computed tomography required.
  • CNMT or ARRT in Nuclear Medicine Technology required.
  • Minimum of three years' relevant experience required, five years preferred.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Additional Qualifications for PET:

  • CNMT or ARRT in Nuclear Medicine Technology required

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, sitting; occasional (0-33% of workday) bending and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination

Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

For MRI Associates: Must complete MRI Associate screening and be approved to work in the MRI environment (Zones 3 & 4) at all times.
