Job Summary:

This position will perform electroneurodiagnostics procedures (testing) with physician orders and with clinical review by a Specialty Electroneurodiagnostics Technologist(s). Duties and responsibilities are performed in accordance with department and national standards for the performance of electroneurodiagnostics testing. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts routine testing as outlined in department scope of practice, policy and procedures, quality assurance standards, and CBOTs. Routine testing includes, but is not limited to: Adult, pediatric, and neonatal Electroencephalogram (EEG), including extended studies supporting certified stroke center, level 2 trauma and level 3 NICU departments, 24 or 48 hour ambulatory, and Video EEG (EMU).
  • Prioritizes/organizes workload to promote quality and expedient testing.
  • Interfaces professionally and effectively with physicians, fellow staff, and other disciplines to evaluate and modify testing as needed.
  • Coordinates outpatient schedules and patient registration for EEG testing.
  • Supports, identifies issues, and manages data transfers in partnership with Information Systems.
  • Provides onboarding instruction and orientation for new Associates.
  • Provides patient instruction (and education as applicable) and evaluates the patient's response to testing. Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies and materials necessary to perform quality and expedient procedures at both Mary Washington and Stafford Hospital.
  • Assists Manager/Supervisor in scheduling of technicians to ensure expected coverage and efficiency including on call coverage for both hospitals.
  • Assists in maintaining the proper function of EEG machines throughout both Mary Washington and Stafford Hospital by performing routine checks and reporting issues to Clinical Engineering and/or Information Services.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment. Demonstrates effective communication, customer service, and team building skills.
  • Participates in quality and performance improvement processes to meet organizational standards.
  • Documents patient information pertinent to testing to ensure comprehensive, timely, and accurate recording, accounting, and reporting of clinical findings.
  • Participates in on-call testing rotation(s) as established by leadership, Technologists, and physicians.
  • Acts as a liaison for MWHC with partner facilities (CNMC, VCU, etc.) to ensure studies are finalized in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent, required.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification required at time of hire.
  • 3-5 years of directly related experience, required.
  • Registered EEG Technician, preferred.
  • Graduation from an AMA EEG Program, preferred.

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination; ability to work in confined spaces; ability to reach above/overhead.

Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
