GW's Department of Medicine (Division of Genomic Medicine) conducts cutting-edge genomics/proteomics research for a variety of diseases, including but not limited to cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Our division has a strong team in genomics and bioinformatics research. More information can be found at the following link:

Dr. McCaffrey's Lab's main focus is on genomic research, including the diagnosis and prediction of cardiovascular diseases by genomic technologies and transcript profiling of blood to reveal biomarkers that give light to potential underlying processes of acute appendicitis. This Research Assistant position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures and assisting with administrative aspects of preparing manuscripts for publication. This position may perform some lab maintenance duties as a secondary function. This role typically works under immediate supervision, and the primary job functions do not require exercising independent judgment. This position will work under Dr. McCaffrey.
Duties include:
- Assists in planning and scheduling of experiments consistent with the timeline and objectives of ongoing projects.
- Assists in literature reviews and analyzing existing data related to the assigned projects.
- Follows the established protocols in the lab, such as real-time PCR, Western blot, etc.
- Assists in the analysis of genomic/proteomic data using bioinformatics tools.
- Completes general upkeep of the lab.
- Complies with Good Lab Practice, Biosafety guidelines.
- Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Assists with troubleshooting technical issues by working closely with others in the lab.
- Participates in group meetings and effectively presents data.
- Performs other related lab duties as necessary. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning tasks that are logistically related to the position.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |
