POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Graphics Specialist creates and designs visual elements for digital and print media to convey information about the Los Alamos National Laboratory legacy waste cleanup efforts to a wide variety of stakeholders and in a wide variety of media.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include, but are not limited to:
  • Design the preparation, printing and distribution of graphics materials for communications and marketing as needed.
  • Maintains and enforces brand guidelines across company materials. Certifies all company compliance and ethical standards are met ensuring employees are informed, up-to-date and aware of guidelines.
  • Participates in strategic communications activities to identify graphics materials that can support overall goals.
  • Develop posters, ads, fact sheets, reports, presentations and other materials supporting communications goals.
  • Supervises the work of outside graphics and printing agencies.
  • Maintains filing system for posters, reports, presentations and approved graphics materials for easy access.
  • Technical knowledge of graphic design and industry standards.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree in a closely related field with at least nine (9) years of related experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & ABILITY:

  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in the use of the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign - or similar software.
  • Advanced skills in developing and leading large-sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Skill in training and mentoring others.
  • Advanced skills in preparing graphics for press releases, fact sheets, media articles, and presentation materials.
  • Ability to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to meet the level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

BUSINESS ASSOCIATION:

Serves as consultant to management and special external spokesperson for the organization on major matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives.

Effects of decisions are long-lasting and heavily influence the future course of the organization. Errors judgment or failure to achieve results would result in the expenditure of large amounts of company resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREME NTS:

  • Individuals must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This position works in an office environment with low noise levels due mostly to office equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, and occasionally climb or balance, squat, stoop, twist, turn, push, pull, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.
  • This position frequently must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and infrequently must lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing requirements include ability to listen and respond appropriately to conversations in person, virtually, and over the phone.
  • Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated.

  • Maintains required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including stopping work if job is unsafe or compromises security.
  • This position will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
