National Grid is hiring a Lead Finance Business Partner. This hybrid role can sit in our either our Waltham MA, Northboro MA or Brooklyn NY location.

Job Purpose

The Lead Finance Business Partner supports the US Customer organization and is responsible for providing commercial acumen, challenging strategic and financial priorities, and delivering financial guidance and insight to Customer leadership to enable decisions delivering improvements to operational and financial performance. The focus of the role is primarily on operating expense but requires understanding of project capital expenses.

Key Accountabilities
  • Support the business in managing annual operating expenses (and where applicable capital investments) to drive desired operational outcomes and performance improvements.
  • Drive value in the business by exposing opportunities and insight to drive improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and manage financial risks, collaborating closely with relevant operational leaders to ensure appropriate implementation and maintenance of controls.
  • Accountable for a given area within the Customer organization to deliver business monthly and quarterly performance results on operating expenses and capital expenses (where applicable) with an emphasis on delivering insight and commentary on matters of importance and forward thinking financial and operational impacts.
  • Partner with business leadership in the development of business cases and other strategic or transformational initiatives to ensure all current and future investments are in line with business strategy and value requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the US Customer business leaders, their teams, finance colleagues, and other internal teams.
  • Contribute to short term forecasting and long-term business planning for business-as-usual activities, transformational projects, collaborating with stakeholders across the business.
  • Understand the regulatory structure of the US business and how this impacts the Customer organization (along with IFRS and GAAP accounting), collaborating with regulatory and finance colleagues on assessment of rate case changes, application to decision making, and impact to future activities.
  • Collaborate with other FBPs on training and best practices to drive efficiencies in activities and improved outcomes, demonstrating continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Broad range of financial, management and business modelling experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills - proven record in managing conflicting stakeholder interests.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with an ability to identify key issues and recommend solutions to complex problems using data, logic, and financial insight.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence and impact the decisions and financial performance of senior stakeholders and their teams throughout the relevant business area.
  • Strong excel skills with the ability to operate in the detail with the ability to succinctly summarize key insights to a senior audience.
  • Experience in utility service business activities and systems is desired but not essential.

Salary

New England MA $116,000 - $136,000 a year

Downstate NY $124,000 - $146,000 a year
