Location: HF Providence Novi
Status: Full-Time | Days
Schedule: Three 13.5-hour shifts per week (Monday - Friday)
Setting: 100% inpatient and ED consults; primarily adult patients with occasional pediatric patients (age 14+)
Call/Weekends: Rotating overnight/weekend on-call for emergent OR cases; call is from home with a 1-hour report time
Surgery/OR Involvement: Approximately 10%

Position Overview:

Physician Assistant Only: The PA will perform daily rounding on general surgery patients pre- and post-operatively, enter daily progress notes, place appropriate orders, perform bedside procedures, complete new consults in the ED and for admitted patients, work effectively with residents, communicate clearly with attending physicians, surgically assist in the OR as needed, and provide on-call coverage for emergent OR cases overnight, on weekends, and on holidays.

If a Nurse Practitioner applies, they will only be considered if they have prior surgical assist experience.

Join a fast-paced, highly skilled team of PAs supporting the General Surgery service. Surgical specialties include General, HPB, Colorectal, Vascular, and select Plastic, Breast, and Thoracic cases. The role offers frequent opportunities to perform bedside procedures such as I&D, wound debridement, central line placement, and chest tube insertion, as well as opportunities to surgically assist in the OR. The schedule is 3 days per week, with a rotating on-call schedule from home for overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage. Report time for call-ins is 1 hour.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed PA, with prior surgical assist experience.
  • 2 years of prior surgical 1st assist experience.
  • Experience with bedside procedures such as I&D, wound debridement, chest tube placement, central line placement, foley catheter placement, wound vac placement.
  • 2 years prior active care experience.

Education & Training

* Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Licensure

* Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

Certification

* PA: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - required (may be obtained after hire)

DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure

  • PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing
