The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Electronics Technician - Facilities Management Division.
Electronics Technician (Life Safety Systems - Fire) (ET-F) works under the direction of the Skilled Trades Supervisor. The Electronics Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and certification of all Life-Safety system components including, but not limited to, Electronic Fire Alarm system maintenance, monitoring, and reporting, Electronic Fire Suppression systems maintenance and certifications, Fire Pump maintenance and certifications, and automated external defibrillator (AEDs).
The duties of the Electronics Technician (Life Safety Systems - Fire) include but are not limited to:
Overseeing regulatory agencies mandated quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspections of the above mentioned life safety systems at sixty-nine County locations. Coordinate with County vendors for the scheduling of all mandated inspections and ensure that all deficiencies found are rectified in order to satisfy certification requirements. Ensure that all regulatory required reports and documents are available for inspectors. Maintain FMD required records and documentation of work performed and compliance documents. Perform minor repairs to life safety systems as allowed by regulatory agencies.
Decisions required of the Electronics Technician (Life Safety Systems - Fire) include deciding if repairs needed should be completed by contractor or by FMD staff, deciding on inspection schedules to minimize impact on daily operations of County facilities and providing recommendations to supervisors about pending issues with life safety systems.
Selected candidate must have a significant understanding and knowledge of the NFPA codes related to Fire Monitoring and Suppression Systems.
General Description
Performs skilled technical work in the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and modification of electronic equipment.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) years of working with electronics and low and high voltage or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
Must be able to pass and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification depending on area of assignment.
Preferences
- Graduation from an accredited Electronics vocational school, OR Completion of a Mechanical Fire Protection Apprenticeship Program.
- Associate's Degree or higher in Electronics or closely related field.
- Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA).
- NICET Level 1-2 (minimal/ 2 years exp. / test).
- NICET Level 3 (5 yrs. exp. / test / ref.).
- NICET Level 4 (10 yrs. exp. / test/ ref.).
- One (1) year of experience working with NFPA codes related to Fire Monitoring and Suppression Systems.
- One (1) years of experience using a computerized maintenance management system.
- Two (2) years of experience working in a controlled, high security environment.
- Two (2) years experience working with fire alarm systems.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Supervises subordinates in the use of a variety of instrumentation and electronic equipment including electronic tests, pneumatic/hydraulic testers, computers, master controllers, shop tools, and other specialized devices.
Installs, adjusts, and maintains alternating and direct current devices, sensors, recorders, analog/digital parameter transmitters and receivers; installs and tests special equipment such as antennae, frequency monitors, microphones, cable and electrical interference suppressors.
Installs, adjusts, and maintains medium high and ultra-high frequency alternating and direct current radio receivers, transmitters, and auxiliaries according to diagrams, drawings and sketches.
Supervises and participates in the installation, adjustment, repair, and maintenance of flow loop system, alternating and direct current circuitry with solid state electronic micro circuitry, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment.
Supervises and participates in on-site maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting work.
Assigns work to subordinate technicians, participates in the more difficult phases of installation, adjustment, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, flow measuring devices, sensors, analog/digital controllers, programmable controllers, transmitters and receivers, detecting devices, and other alternating and direct current devices.
Supervises complete overhaul, including adjusting, repairing, and replacing parts and converting obsolete equipment to conform to present control loop design and construction standards.
Makes recommendations to superiors for the improvement of instrumentation, industrial electronic/electrical, pneumatic/mechanical control devices and digital frequency shift telemetry.
Estimates time and materials required for proposed jobs maintains records and submits various reports requisitions supplies and equipment; prepares and maintains operating and special reports as required by his superior.
Performs related work as assigned.
