The Opportunity at Hand

The role of the Accounting Intern is an integral member of the Accounting & Reporting team adding value through assisting with preparing key financial reports, supporting month and quarterend close activities, performing variance analysis, and researching accounting guidance.

Projects & Tasks

  • Gain exposure to our ERP system, reporting tools, and financial reporting processes to build a solid foundation in financial management
  • Develop confidence interpreting financial data and identifying trends or anomalies
  • Assist with the preparing and analyzing financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to support accurate and timely reporting
  • Prepare and validate supporting schedules for financial statement disclosures
  • Perform flux analysis on GL accounts and document explanations for variances
  • Contribute to month-end and quarter-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Research relevant accounting guidance and summarize findings to help assess potential impacts on the organization
  • Review and update departmental policies, procedures, and accounting memos as necessary
  • Collaborate with teams across Finance, IT, and Operations, and gain exposure to interactions with external auditors
  • Analyze and interpret financial data to support decision-making
  • Keep all sensitive matters confidential
  • Other projects as assigned

What you will need to make an impact

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn and adopt new systems as needed
  • Comfortable collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate professionally via phone, email, and in-person
  • Strong public speaking, group presentation, interpersonal and persuasion skills required
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to respond quickly to changing circumstances
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to enhance existing processes and solutions
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and positive, with a track record of managing change with persistence and urgency
  • Experience with SAP or BPC preferred but not required


Education and Experience

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program within accounting or a related field
  • Future CPA aspirations are a plus

This role is 100% in-person and requires on-site attendance five days a week at our Headquarters building located in downtown Buffalo. The hourly rate for this posted position is $17hr. and pertains to candidates located in Western New York. Compensation is determined by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, essential job duties and requirements, and necessary experience.
