About the Position Are you a certified Spanish interpreter with a passion for precision, leadership, and purpose? In this supervisory role with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, you'll not only handle the transcription and translation of Spanish-language evidentiary recordings and documents, but also provide daytoday leadership and guidance to a small team of skilled language professionals, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and highquality service across all casework. As the Language Services Supervisor,you'lloversee the work of the Certified Spanish Interpreter and the Language Services Coordinator, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with legal standards. In this Supervisory role, you will also be responsible for any transcription and translation of materials in Lesser Used Languages (LUL), to include unique dialects from around the world. We Require
- One year of supervisory experience
- Four years of professional interpreting experience or professional experience transcribing and translating Spanish-language evidentiary recordings for use in criminal court proceedings
- High school diplomaor GED
- Post-secondary education in a Translation/Interpretation program may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Supervisory experience cannot be substituted
Other Requirements Candidates must hold one of the following credentials:
- Arizona Spanish court interpreter credential at the Tier 3 or Tier 4 level granted by the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program
- Equivalent Spanish court interpreter credential granted by another U.S state
- Spanish court interpreter credential granted by the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT)
- Federal Spanish court interpreter certification granted by the Administrative Office of the U.S Courts (AOUSC)
- Candidates must be credentialed as an Arizona Spanish court interpreter at the Tier 3 or Tier 4 level, as granted by the Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program, within six months of their hire date

Please note: The subject of this position is of an extremely graphic nature. Many of the cases involve heinous crimes, including homicide, rape, and sex crimes against children. The employee will be required to transcribe and translate evidence recordings that may contain graphic content, explicit language, depictions of violence, nudity, and other disturbing material. Exposure to such content is a regular and unavoidable part of the job, and the employee must maintain professional detachment and remain unbiased. While carrying out the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to type at a computer for extended periods, speak clearly and hear accurately, sit for long periods, stand, walk, use their hands to handle or feel objects, and reach with their arms. The role may occasionally require pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 20 pounds. Job Contributions
- Supervises the Language ServicesUnit, holds regular meetings with staff, and oversees the work of the team
- Assistswith interviewing and hiringnew staff, training,coaching,and disciplining employees, and completing performance evaluations
- Reviews and approves invoices
- Performs verbatim transcription andaccuratetranslationof Spanish and English audio and video evidentiaryrecordings for criminal court proceedings
- Translates documents between English and Spanish with a high degree of accuracy and attention to legal context
- Maintains the source language register in all translations and interpretations
- Proofreads, edits, and certifies transcriptions and translations to ensure quality and compliance withthe Court's guidelines
- Conducts certified independent reviews of transcriptions and translations for court proceedings and functions as a secondary Certified Interpreter, in addition to performing supervisory responsibilities
- Provides interpretation in all three modes-simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation-during in-person, telephonic, and virtual meetings with attorneys, victim advocates, victims, victims' next of kin, witnesses, and others, as needed
- Ensuresthatworkcompleted by staff and by contracted vendors isaccurateand deliveredin a timely manner
- Reviews evidentiary materialsand summarizes communicationsto narrow the scope of transcription and translation requests
- Collaborates with court procurement to vet and onboard new language service vendors and subcontractors
- Coordinates andparticipatesin training and continuing education activities tomaintaininterpreter credentials and ensure staffremaincurrent with professional standards
- Serves as a liaison between the Language Services Unit and MCAO administration and staff, Court Interpretation and Translation Services (CITS), Court Procurement, and other external partners as needed
Working Conditions
- This position involves a combination of desk-based and interactive language services work
- The employee will regularly perform transcription and translation of audio and video recordings, document translation, and proofreading tasks at a computer workstation
- The role includes in-person, telephonic, and virtual interpretation during meetings with attorneys, victim advocates, victims, victims' next of kin, witnesses, and others
- Must also be required to attend off-site and/or after-hours interpreting events on occasion
- A hybrid telework schedule is available after 6 months of work
