Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with grants support in an academic unit at a USG institution.
  • Understanding of research administration roles and responsibilities at all levels for all university players, external sponsors, and project types.
  • Experience in reading and understanding policies and guidelines.
  • Familiar with policies of major federal sponsors and federal guidelines.
  • Experience in research administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Position Summary
This is a highly responsible professional Staff position working with College of Engineering Faculty and the Office for Sponsored Programs involving the submission and approval of external funding applications. This position will primarily assist faculty in development, preparation, and review of proposals for external funding, as well as submit proposals to sponsors within DLSA limits, and coordinate submission of proposals outside DLSA limits with College of Engineering Grants Coordinators and/or SPA. This position will serve as a resource to the College of Engineering and investigators in administration of sponsored projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of procedures in pre-award grant with some financial preparation.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • The ability to work independently and resolve common problems.
  • Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures regarding external funding.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel, state, federal agencies and private organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Work under varying levels of supervision in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic research administration systems.


Delegated Limited Submission Authority ( DLSA) status typically should be attained at this level within six to twelve months. Research Terms and Conditions Certification ( RTC) status through the Sponsored Projects Office should be attained after DLSA certification is achieved.

Grants Proposal, Application, and Award Management


  • This position will focus heavily on guiding and assisting College of Engineering faculty through the complex grant proposal and application processes, including reviewing and submitting proposals on behalf of faculty members.
  • This employee will enter modifications into the grants-portal for PIs, such as no-cost extensions, as well as assist faculty in budget revisions.
  • This employee will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting guidelines and policies, including staying up to date on University, state, and federal policies as well as informing relevant faculty and staff members when these policies undergo change. This employee will also answer questions concerning these policies when needed.
  • This position will attend Research Administration Discussion Group (RADG) meetings and DLSA meetings upon certification.

Collaboration and Coordination with Business Office


  • This position will be responsible for successfully coordinating with the CENGR Business Office to hand off grants administration and grants accounting post-award. This includes entering modifications into the portal, verifying terms and conditions of agreements for faculty and staff members, and consulting with SPA to ensure any modifications are permitted by the sponsor and the award agreement.

  • This employee will operate as a liaison between the PIs, OSP, and the College of Engineering in facilitating the awards and budgetary processes. This position will be the first point of contact.
