The shift for this position is days. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. First shift rotating between 6:30am-5pm, and be on the call rotation. Call is one day a week, and every 5th weekend. I. GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs and supervises the performance of a variety of nuclear pediatric (i.e. mag 3 lasix scans, OMSA renal scans, VCU6 scans, lung perfusion, etc.). Performs computer analysis on each test. Trains technologists, radiology residents, and students in nuclear pediatric procedures II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs all duties and responsibilities of oversees the Staff Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Nuclear Pediatric, and the technical performance of other staff technologists in this area. Prepares, calculates and performs quality control on radiopharmaceuticals for intravenous injection and administers the proper dosage intravenously. Records optimum dynamic and static diagnostic images of the target organ utilizing a radioisotope gamma camera and digital computer. Coordinates patient flow in the pediatric room, and assumes responsibility for the flexible scheduling of pediatric studies. Performs daily quality control of all pediatric related equipment, and assumes responsibility for others' performance of quality control procedures. Processes all nuclear pediatric procedures through the computer which can entail running several programs on each procedure to produce a full patient report with images, graphs and numerical data, and assumes responsibility for the quality of all such images in the cardiac area. Updates, on an on-going basis, all cardiac computer programs. Maintains the pediatric procedure manual. Maintains the pediatric area with proper emergency supplies. Trains staff technologists, radiology residents and students in all nuclear pediatric procedures as outlined above. Performs computer librarian work for saving, filing and retrieval of patient exams. Participates in research protocols in nuclear pediatric. Prepares kits and dispense daily routine and "special" clinical radiopharmaceutical doses for use in Division of Nuclear Medicine. Assays and dispense radiopharmaceutical doses for other institutional users. Orders special radiopharmaceuticals. Performs daily and other mandatory quality assurance procedures in Nuclear Pharmacy. Manages the supply of radioactive materials including placement of orders, maintenance of records, storage of materials and control of waste in the Division of Nuclear Medicine. Intra-venous and urinary catheter placement for appropriate scans. Administers heparin (IV) to keep (IV) access. Sends letters to parents explaining procedures. Confirms pediatric patients, and answers all parents questions pertaining to the exam. Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. III. JOB REQUIREMENTS: A. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Strong leadership and teaching skills helpful. Ability to stand or walk most of the day with occasional lifting and positioning of adult patients and lead shield (40 lbs.) and pushing of heavy collimators. Participation in local and/or national technologist/nuclear pediatric organizations desirable. CPR review (pediatrics). Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. B. EDUCATION: Level of knowledge generally obtained through a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university, with successful completion of board certification. C. EXPERIENCE: Two to three years experience with extensive nuclear pediatric technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements. IV. AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes: * Knowledge of growth and development * Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care * Provide age specific communication V. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Constant exposure to ionizing radiation, radioactive contaminated needles and syringes. Occasional exposure to contaminated body wastes and blood.
