Liquid Quality Control Supervisor

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st shift

Pay Range (based on experience and qualifications): $65,000 - $75,000 per year.

Position Summary

The Liquid Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for all facets of the Quality Control and Tinting Departments to include all bulk, in-process, and final testing of products not CARC related. The Supervisor is responsible for assigning and supervising direct reports to accomplish all bulk, in-process, and final testing of products as well as the testing of all incoming raw materials. The Liquid Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for all certifications and test reports required by the customer.

Successful candidates must achieve acceptable scores on both the color matching and math assessments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures full compliance with all established safety policies and practices within the laboratory and production areas.
  • Performs wet testing and color shading on large, small, and micro batches as needed, and coordinates the work of others using advanced color matching expertise.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Plant Chemist to develop and implement training programs for QC Technicians in shading, tinting, testing procedures, and other relevant areas to enhance departmental expertise.
  • Develops, maintains, and improves laboratory systems, procedures, and documentation to ensure accurate product inspection, strong recordkeeping, and efficient workflow through the QC process, including:
    1. Overseeing all color tinting, in process, and final QC testing for large batch, small batch, and micro batch production.
    2. Managing the incoming raw material testing program to verify compliance with specifications.
    3. Maintaining organized files of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for all incoming raw materials.
    4. Preparing and completing required test reports and certifications for Military specifications and General Industrial customers.
  • Assists with root cause investigations for distressed or out of spec production batches and provides recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Re-certifies expired paint when appropriate to extend the shippable life of the product, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to safety rules by all direct reports, including promoting safe work practices, coaching employees, and providing any required safety training in addition to that offered by the corporate safety trainer. Stops and reports any observed safety violations throughout the facility.
  • As part of housekeeping responsibilities, may assist in the disposal of hazardous waste, following all proper procedures. Initial training on hazardous waste disposal is provided by the Environmental and Safety Department or department supervisor, with annual refresher training provided by the EHS Department.
  • Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules and regulations.
  • Conducts interviews, hires, and terminates employees as necessary in accordance with company policies.
  • Performs semi-annual performance reviews for direct reports, providing feedback, coaching, and development guidance.
  • Provides ongoing performance coaching and oversight for assigned staff.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or another physical science strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    1. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a qualityrelated role within a manufacturing or chemical environment preferred.
    2. Minimum of three (3) years of liquid coatings process experience preferred.

  • Technical Skills:
    1. Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex mathematical calculations.
    2. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP systems, and standard office equipment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly in a manufacturing or operational setting.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the work area.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, and control objects, tools, or equipment.
  • Required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulder level.
  • Occasional operation of machinery using foot controls
  • May be required to climb, balance, and reach overhead as part of job duties.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Safety shoes, safety glasses, and flame-retardant uniforms or lab coats are required in production areas.
  • Respirators and ear plugs are required for specific production processes.
