Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technical Manager-Radiology in Manhattan.

The Technical Manager Radiology is responsible for the overall technical, clinical, administrative, and operational oversight of all radiology patient care sections. This role oversees Lead Technologists, regulates patient flow throughout the department, and ensures compliance with quality assurance, regulatory, safety, and clinical performance standards.
Serving as a leader and role model, the Technical Manager collaborates closely with the Administrative Director, Section Chiefs, institution practice managers, nursing leadership, radiology management teams, technologists, and support personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality imaging services. The Technical Manager supports staffing, performance management, equipment planning, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement across the department.

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership & Departmental Operations

  • Oversees daily technical operations across all radiology sections to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant patient care.
  • Monitors patient flow, care, and safety to ensure adherence to departmental procedures and standards.
  • Approves scheduling procedures and prioritizes patient schedules to maximize utilization of staff and facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of technical excellence and professionalism across all imaging modalities.
  • Serves as a clinical and operational leader and role model for radiology staff.

Clinical Quality & Performance Oversight

  • Periodically monitors diagnostic imaging procedures to ensure image quality and consistency with physician orders.
  • Identifies performance variances and takes corrective action through direct intervention or staff communication to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.
  • Utilizes audit results, quality assurance data, and incident reports to improve service quality and patient outcomes.
  • Ensures departmental policies and procedures are current, well organized, accessible, and consistently followed.

Staffing, Hiring & Performance Management

  • Coordinates recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance management of professional technical staff.
  • Has primary responsibility for recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and hiring professional technical staff.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs staff orientation and ongoing training programs in accordance with medical center and departmental policies.
  • Ensures assignments are clearly communicated and followed through to completion.
  • Conducts performance evaluations after probation and annually thereafter, with additional evaluations as needed.
  • Provides timely counseling, coaching, and performance improvement plans when indicated.
  • Implements disciplinary actions in accordance with NYU Langone Health policies when necessary.
  • Allocates staffing and technical resources appropriately to meet operational demands.
  • Assists with recruitment planning for future radiology sites.

Equipment, Supplies & Capital Planning

  • Oversees evaluation, acquisition, utilization, and maintenance of imaging equipment and technical resources.
  • Develops and implements inventory control systems for imaging supplies and technical operations.
  • Periodically evaluates the condition and performance of imaging equipment and recommends upgrades or replacements.
  • Assists in long-range planning for equipment, space, and technical staffing needs.
  • Provides budgetary input based on current operations and projected growth.
  • Ensures equipment is maintained per manufacturer specifications and that maintenance and repair records are accurate and complete.
  • Reviews and approves service reports.
  • Represents the department in interactions with vendors and initiates quotes, purchases, service, and maintenance contracts to ensure cost-effective operations.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Oversees departmental quality control and quality assurance programs.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing radiological services.
  • Maintains awareness of current regulatory standards and ensures departmental policies align accordingly.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission (JCAHO) and other accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Inspects patient care and work areas to ensure adherence to cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Reviews quality control documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborates with the Radiation Safety Officer to ensure compliance with the Radiation Safety Program.
  • Works with ancillary departments, nursing leadership, hospital committees, and Patient Relations/Ombudsman teams to maintain standards of care.

Collaboration & Administrative Support

  • Plays an active leadership role in planning, organizing, and implementing departmental initiatives and strategic directives.
  • Works closely with Section Chiefs, site managers, nursing leadership, radiology managers, technologists, and support staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Communicates expectations, responsibilities, and performance standards clearly to site managers and staff.
  • Coordinates with Patient Relations Specialists to address patient concerns and service recovery as needed.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintains a high level of technical knowledge and leadership competency.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and accountability in all interactions.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Nuclear Medicine
  • New York State License in Radiologic Technology
  • Current registration with ARRT, ARDMS, or equivalent credentialing body
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience
    In lieu of five (5) years of leadership experience, ten (10) years of clinical experience as a technologist will be accepted, or a combination of leadership and clinical experience equating to ten (10) years, with a minimum of six (6) years of clinical experience as a technologist.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $101,493.51 - $141,960.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
