* 5+ years as an Oracle DBA, supporting an enterprise environment * 1-2 years of PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL * Red Had Enterprise Linux *Description* We are looking for a Oracle Database Administrator specializing in infrastructure and operations. This includes and advanced skill set in Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle ASM, Oracle Grid, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The DBA should be comfortable using SQL Performance Analyzer, SQL Tuning Adviser, and writing scripts to assist with routine database tasks, such as patching, and extracting data for reporting. * This position includes the responsibilities such as patching, database maintenance activities, application support activities, disaster recovery tests, and infrastructure upgrades. * An intermediate level skill set in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL is a plus but not required. * A fundamental knowledge of basic infrastructure technologies such as shared storage, server virtualization, monitoring tools, and other infrastructure tools is helpful. Responsibilities include: * Install, maintain, patch, and upgrade database software. * Maintain development, test, QA and production database environments. * Maintain Oracle Data Guard and other high availability and fault tolerant solutions. * Monitor and manage database backups, logs, and journals and restore or recover data as required. * Design, develop and maintain high availability and disaster recovery strategies for database environments. * Monitor and maintain database security. * Monitor databases to optimize performance and infrastructure compute resource consumption. * Assist with the migration of data between disparate databases, integration activities, data replication, data modeling, data conversions, capacity planning issues, query tuning, and new application deployments. * Perform SQL query analysis and tuning. * Design and develop databases in conjunction with application teams. * Provide advice to application programmers in the effective use of database languages; assist with troubleshooting, and support miscellaneous other data management issues. * Create procedures and maintain various database, application and system related documents and programs such as scripts, solution designs and run books. * Participate in proof-of-concept initiatives as assigned. * Participate in projects as assigned. * Maintain monitoring solutions including KPI tuning, capacity threshold tuning, alert management, run books, scheduled job success/failure/performance, query performance, etc. * Maintain an accurate inventory of all database infrastructure. * Perform and/or assist with disaster recovery tests. * Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. * Provide 24-hour on-call support when scheduled. * Perform after hours activities when assigned. *Additional Skills & Qualifications* * Develops and maintains a hierarchical or relational database that contains data elements necessary to meet the informational needs of the University. Develops and implements standards, including naming conventions for files, records and data elements, for the creation and maintenance of databases and other file structures. * Directs and controls all database management activities, as well as flat file structures, including responsibility for security and efficient operation. Maintains responsibility for the definition, organization, and documentation of all databases and flat file structures. Maintains and evaluates database structures through the use of a data dictionary. * Establishes and monitors standards and procedures to ensure integration of systems through database design. Establishes naming conventions that reduce redundancy and promotes standardization in programming references to the database. * Oversees documentation of all structures and database files. Ensures updates are made as needed. * Assumes responsibility for controlling and reducing redundancy of data elements in all files. * Authors new databases and files required by application development. Consults with and advises users of the various databases and files. * Prepares activity and progress reports concerning the data base management function for review by departmental leadership. * Defines, installs and maintains adequate database backup and recovery procedures. * Other duties as assigned. *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
