Job Summary

The School of Physics (https://physics.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, invites applications for a Research Scientist II position in theoretical research work in the area of atomic and molecular clusters, superatomic materials, nanocatalysis, nanostructures, surfaces and interfaces, and the properties of electrons, holes, and quasi-particles in confined environments (e.g., qubits and quantum dots). This is a full-time position, 40 hours weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical research on atomic and molecular clusters, superatomic materials, nanocatalysis, nanostructures, surfaces and interfaces, and the behavior of electrons, holes, and quasi particles in confined environments (including qubits and quantum dots).

  • Contribute to the drafting, preparation, and submission of manuscripts for peer reviewed journals.

  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports detailing research methods, findings, and future research directions.

  • Assist in the preparation, writing, and submission of research proposals and grant applications.

  • Support the broader activities and initiatives of the research team, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Collaborate with and provide mentorship or guidance to graduate students as needed.

Required Qualifications

Research Scientist II

  • A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or

  • A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or

  • A Doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

The individual selected for this position must hold a Ph.D. in Physics.

In addition, the research associated with this role requires extensive expertise and a substantial record of accomplishment, including:

  • A minimum of 15 years of research experience in theoretical and computational investigations of nanoscale systems.

  • A strong publication record, with at least 30 peer reviewed journal articles in relevant fields.

  • Deep knowledge and broad experience in large scale, computer based simulations of nanoscale materials.

  • Proven proficiency in both classical and quantum computational methodologies, such as density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and related electronic structure and materials modeling techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and model the electronic, geometric, physical, and chemical properties of atomic and molecular scale structures and materials.
