Job Title: Senior Safety Specialist.
Location: Portsmouth, VA.
High Level Project Overview:
- Large-scale energy industries and wind energy development - all involve potentially hazardous working conditions, equipment, and materials.
- The goal of an occupational health and safety specialist is to maintain a safe work environment for the employees of a business. He or she will review, evaluate, and analyze workplaces as well as design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury to employees.
- The specialist may conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
Other tasks include:
- Ordering suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
- Investigating workplace accidents to identify causes and determine how such accidents can be avoided in the future.
- Recommending measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Inspecting or evaluating workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Demonstrating the use of safety equipment.
Top 3 Required Skills:
- HSE certification.
- Control of work and referencing permits experience.
- Incident investigations experience.
- Experience working at heights.
- Auditing Experience.
What soft skill requirements do you have (team fit and personality requirements)?
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to lead, collaborate, or work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams.
Nice to Have Skills:
- ASP or CSP certified would be a huge plus.
- Construction Safety Certification would be great if they have it.
Education:
- Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalency.
Preferred Years of Experience:
- Minimum of 5-10 years direct hands-on related safety experience.
Are there any specific companies/industries you'd like to see in the candidate's experience?
- Experience in heavy lifting/civil projects or large construction projects.
