Department: Thoracic Surgery
Location: 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME
Schedule: Per Diem | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM | Minimum 3 days per week | Consistent Schedule
Hybrid Flexibility Available-must live local to Scarborough

MaineHealth Thoracic Surgery is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Patient Service Specialist (PSS) to join our team in Scarborough. This role plays a key part in ensuring a seamless patient experience by coordinating scheduling, managing referrals, and supporting the overall administrative needs of the practice.

Position Summary

The Patient Service Specialist ensures patient scheduling and referral needs are met while assisting in the general administrative and patient service functions of the practice. This role serves as an important point of contact for patients and supports clinical staff by keeping workflows organized and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits
  • Coordinate and process incoming and outgoing referrals
  • Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information
  • Answer and route incoming phone calls in a professional manner
  • Assist patients with questions related to appointments and care coordination
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Provide general administrative support to the Thoracic Surgery team

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Six months of medical office experience required.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: N/A
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Proficient computer skills.
