Your Job

Koch Fertilizer's Fort Dodge, IA facility is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to help advance the performance, reliability, and innovation of our plant operations. You'll join a highperforming team that plays a critical role in driving process automation, optimization, and continuous improvement across the site.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our process control systems. You'll work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and technical support teams to enhance control strategies, troubleshoot complex issues, and identify opportunities to elevate system performance. We're looking for a proactive, curious, and collaborative individual who is excited to lead and support key process control initiatives that strengthen our plant's longterm capability.


What You Will Do

  • Monitor and improve plant's process control and safety system performance.
  • Collaborate with Operators, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to identify and implement optimization and improvement opportunities, troubleshoot issues, and lead technical investigations related to process controls.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of sequences to automate plant startup, shutdown and upset events across the site.
  • Provide support for process control hardware and software, including troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Ensure Functional Safety requirements are followed, and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) performance meets our design specifications.
  • Maintain Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Cause and Effects (C&Es), control narratives, and other process safety information as it pertains to process controls.
  • Support site capital projects and initiatives.
  • Be able to work in the field as needed to access and inspect instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Comply with all site and fleet requirements on stewardship and personnel safety.
  • Travel may be required up to 10-15%.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Familiarity with Process Control Engineering concepts and equipment
  • At least one or more years of relevant industry or military experience (i.e.: working with DCS, SIS, PLC logic, APC or SBC experience, process engineering, etc.)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering (i.e.: Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.)
  • Experience implementing regulatory control schemes and DCS configuration.
  • Experience with safety instrumented systems and functional safety.
  • Experience troubleshooting, revising, and optimizing existing control schemes.
  • Loop tuning and control loop performance improvement experience.
  • Experience in the fertilizer industry with Manufacturing processes, or experience in refining and major petrochemical operations.
