Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior UI/UX Designer to craft intuitive and accessible interfaces for advanced analytics and data visualization platforms. In this role, you will transform complex data workflows into engaging, mission-driven user experiences that enable stakeholders to explore insights efficiently and with confidence.

The ideal candidate brings strong visual design expertise, a solid foundation in user research methodologies, and a deep understanding of data visualization best practices. They will design secure, scalable, and user-friendly digital solutions that support CBP's analytics and intelligence initiatives.

Support will be provided across multiple mission locations:

    Ashburn, VA
  • Sterling, VA
  • Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

User Research & Experience Strategy

  • Conduct user interviews, workflow analysis, and usability testing to identify user needs and pain points.
  • Develop personas, journey maps, and interaction models tailored to analytics and operational users.
  • Translate research findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Promote user-centered design principles across project teams.

Wireframing, Prototyping & Visual Design

  • Create low- and high-fidelity wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Develop clean, modern UI designs optimized for data-heavy applications.
  • Establish and maintain design systems, style guides, and reusable components.
  • Ensure visual consistency aligned with organizational branding and accessibility standards.

Data Visualization & Interaction Design

  • Collaborate with data engineers and visualization specialists to design dashboards, charts, and interactive features.
  • Define intuitive navigation flows, filtering mechanisms, drill-down capabilities, and contextual interactions.
  • Balance aesthetics with functionality to enhance clarity, usability, and performance.
  • Support responsive design for web and mobile platforms.

Accessibility & Compliance

  • Ensure designs meet WCAG accessibility standards and federal usability guidelines.
  • Conduct accessibility reviews and incorporate inclusive design practices.
  • Support compliance with DHS digital standards and security requirements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with developers to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications.
  • Provide detailed design assets, documentation, and guidance during development.
  • Gather post-launch feedback and iterate designs for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and cross-functional planning sessions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA. 12 years with HS diploma/equivalent can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in UI/UX design for web-based applications.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar design tools.
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout principles, color theory, and design systems.
  • Experience designing for analytics dashboards or data visualization platforms.
  • Knowledge of usability testing and user research methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Clearance Requirements

  • Current and active Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required CBP suitability.
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for effective developer handoff.
  • Experience with visualization libraries (D3.js, Chart.js) or BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1+) and Section 508 compliance.
  • Certifications in UX Design, Human Factors, or Interaction Design.
  • Experience supporting federal or DHS environments.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
