Essential Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant - Containers is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information and preparing accurate and timely financial statements.



  • Review billing, labor and accounts payable data in general ledger. Resolve any problems and correct errors.
  • Prepare various management accounting reports as needed (including complete financial statements) for monitoring of operating trends, margin analysis, etc.
  • Provide an open line of communication between the various terminal managers and/or joint venture partners for which they perform the job cost functions for, answering any questions they may have regarding the monthly results of their operation. Along these lines, communicate with the Billing department and outside parties (i.e., port authorities) in researching unusual results or incomplete information.
  • Preparation of worksheets and other analysis for annual audits.
  • Prepare a Joint Venture Company's monthly financial reporting package and related analysis, along with the accumulation and distribution of detailed monthly financial information.
  • Performs variance analyses and prepares account reconciliations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in Accounting, Finance or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Two to four years progressively responsible experience in accounting
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, etc.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.

Work environment:



  • Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
