Youth Programs Group Leader (replacing Summer Program Assistant)

University Youth Programs has been offering unique and high quality summer camps to youth for over 35 years. Instruction in a variety of specialty topics is combined with a well-rounded recreation program that features the resources and facilities of the Twin Cities Campus. A convenient location and extended daytime hours add to the popularity. Youth attend one or more weeks throughout the summer. Age appropriate groups are kept to a 1:8 ratio of adults to youth for a fun summer experience for all.

AVAILABLE HOURS: 40 hours/week
WORKING HOURS: 7:45am to 5:15pm (8.5 hr shift)
ANTICIPATED START DATE: June 2026
STARTING WAGE: $16-$18/hour DOE
LOCATION: St. Paul Gym

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide a safe environment for youth ages 6-15
* Supervise and participate with groups of youth in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including rock climbing and swimming
* Plan and lead organized games and other age-appropriate activities
* Interact and relate with youth and serve as a positive role model
* Work as a team with other Group Leaders, Instructors, and Coordinators
* Be an ambassador for the University of Minnesota and Youth Programs on and off of campus
* Carry out the goals, themes and schedule of the program to provide a consistent and high quality experience
* Additional duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Age 18 or older
* Experience working with youth ages 6-15
* Experience implementing youth activities and supervising youth in groups of 8 to 20
* Willing and able to swim and physically play with youth on a daily basis
* Individual is capable of effective and appropriate mental, emotional, and social responses in a constantly changing, youth-centered environment
* Available to work 9 camp weeks: June 15 - August 21, 2026 (Monday - Friday)
No camps June 19th and week of June 29 - July 3
* Available to attend required training all-day on Saturday, June 6th and the evenings of June 8th, June 10th, June 11th and Sunday, July 19th
* Must complete required training and certifications prior to due dates
* Must pass a background check and national sex offender registry check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Age 19 or older
* Training in child development, elementary education, early childhood, recreation, or similar fields
* Experience in a day camp, recreation, or school age care setting.
* Organized and highly responsible

Pay Range: $16.00 - $18.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience
