IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION,CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE SUPERVISOR BRICKLAYER TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST, EXAM # 3592.

The Citywide Concrete Program inspects curb and sidewalk complaints from the public, identifying damaged or missing sidewalk & curbs that are pedestrian & vehicular hazards and can cause severe flooding. The supports the agency s goal to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the City's infrastructure by acting as the agency's primary construction unit.

Under supervision of an Area Supervisor, the Supervisor Bricklayer will be required to supervise staff that prepare, mix, lay and finish cement to grade and contour, prepare and set forms; lay concrete floors, pavements, walks, foundations, curbs and retaining walls (plain and reinforced) screed and finish cement. Will be required to estimate material needed daily and prepare material requisitions and work directly with the various concrete vendors that delivers concrete to the job sites; be able to read and follow plans and specifications. This role requires accurate record keeping and the ability to make decisions regarding the quality of the material that is delivered for the good of the department. Additional supervisory tasks to be performed includes: daily dispatch and assigning of Masons to job site to maximize pours and productivity; training new staff, meeting with staff and providing regular feedback, initiate disciplinary proceedings where appropriate and escalate operational concerns when needed. The candidate will be required to operate a motor vehicle and small power equipment and tools.

SUPERVISOR BRICKLAYER - 92271

Minimum Qualifications

1. Seven (7) years of full-time experience acquired within the last 15 years as a Bricklayer, two (2) years of which must have been of a supervisory nature.

Preferred Skills

The selected candidate may be required to work various shifts (including nights, weekends and holidays).
Some of the physical activities includes crouching, carrying tools and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds working outdoors in all kinds of weather wearing required PPE (hard hat, work gloves, vest, work boots) when performing work and removing concrete with hand tools and/or power tools.
Preference will be given to candidate who possess a commercial Driver's License CDL A or B valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
