Job Description Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Development, the Grants and Contracts Manager is a member of the agency's Development Department and, as such, receives direction on occasion from the Chief Executive Officer. This position is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of relationships with public and private grantmaking organizations to support agency services. The position oversees the team responsible for writing and submitting grant applications, letters of intent, reports, and other fundraising documents.
Job Description Essential:
- Lead prospector, writer and editor for all public and private grant applications and reports with a team goal of exceeding $4M in revenue.
- Manages all private foundation relationships from prospecting to reporting, including acknowledgments and stewardship.
- Collaborates with program leadership in prospecting, application development and submission, and reporting on all public grants and contracts.
- Oversees the grants team to ensure that detailed record keeping, submission and reporting requirements are managed and timely manner.
- Provides specific feedback and copy editing on each application and report submission to grants team, the director, and program leadership.
- Builds relationships with foundation representatives beyond grant making, including site visits, updating communications and prospecting/stewardship and event participation.
- Manages applications, tracking, reporting and analysis in conjunction with agency finance, administration, and relevant programmatic departments.
- Provides leadership, support, management and guidance to direct reports and also behaves as a leader within the Development Department and agency overall.
- Maintains internal agency relationships with program staff to stay up-to-date on agency developments and to apply that information to applications and reports.
- Ensures accurate and open record keeping, including in electronic file systems and in the Development Department donor management systems.
Job Description Qualifications:
- Excellent writing and copy editing skills.
- At least 5 years' experience writing and submitting nonprofit grant applications and reports, with experience in both private and public grants preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong leadership, time management, organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills.
- Experience managing staff and a strong desire to coach, nurture and develop team members. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and teams.
- Ability to represent and speak about The People Concern to external audiences and prospects.
- Experience using MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other donor management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of homelessness, housing, and domestic violence preferred.
- Able to work with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid CA Driver's license, reliable car, auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
Job Description Work Environment:
- Field (may need to travel) and indoor office environment.
- On occasion, walk or drive to different local sites.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend and occasionally lift or carry up to 35 pounds.
- Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments.
- Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor.
- May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day.
