Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Executive Director of Residence
Life and Student Housing, the Associate Director, the Manager of Facilities Operations, and the
supervision of the RLSH Painter, the Student Painter plays an integral role in
the daily operations of the residential facilities and in the quality of the
on-campus experience within the University residence halls. RLSH operates
year-round and serves a variety of campus and community populations.

UNM Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) endeavors to
foster inclusive, community-based living environments, consciously designed for
our residents' personal growth and academic success, in well-maintained
facilities.

RLSH is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our
team as a Student Painter to work in a dynamic, student-oriented, and
academically focused residential environment. RLSH is a comprehensive department
that manages all aspects of the housing experience, serving 2500 residents
across 9 residential buildings.

The term for the summer position begins May 18, 2026, and ends
on or around August 16, 2026.

This position is subject to background check. Please note
that the exact start date will be determined once the pre-employment background
check has cleared.

Student Paint staff may qualify for a discounted or free RLSH
summer room assignment based on meeting a work hours minimum requirement
.

To be eligible for student employment, students must be
enrolled for fall 2026 classes or summer 2026 classes. If enrolled for fall and
not enrolled for summer, students may work up to 40 hours per week. Students
taking a summer course can work only up to 28 hours per week (for domestic
students) or up to 20 hours per week (for international students) during their
enrollment.

Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but
are not limited to, the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheetrock, concrete, and wood.
  • Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
  • Performs surface preparation, including application of putty, wood filler, spackling, and caulks.
  • Prepares surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and pressure washing.
  • May apply exterior caulking to building joints and seams under direct supervision.
  • May move furniture and other items including locating and relocating desks, bedframes, bed springs, mattresses, chairs, tables, common area furniture, and other related RLSH inventory/items.
  • Arranges and sets up furniture and related items.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Be eligible for student employment.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort Required:

  • Work involves exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noises.
  • Physical activity required. Requires handling an average weight of 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four hours per day.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards of physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability
    to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability
    to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
