Job Summary

The Enterprise Architect serves as the company's senior technical authority responsible for guiding enterprise architecture standards, integration patterns, and technology governance across the organization. This role ensures that new solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, approved technology standards, and long-term platform strategy.

The role also plays a key operational role in architecture governance, including facilitating architecture review boards, managing technology intake processes, and maintaining enterprise technology standards. In addition, the Enterprise Architect supports ongoing software portfolio assessment and rationalization, helping reduce platform complexity and guide modernization decisions.

While domain-specific architects (such as AI Architects or Data Architects) focus on specialized technology and solution capabilities, the Enterprise Architect ensures these architectures align with the overall enterprise technology landscape including 3rd party systems & SaaS platforms, governance framework, and platform strategy. By providing architectural guidance, maintaining governance discipline, and supporting technology portfolio optimization, this role helps ensure that technology investments are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture & Integration Strategy

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the organization's technology ecosystem, including applications, integrations, infrastructure platforms, and data flows.
  • Define standards for enterprise integration architecture, including APIs, middleware platforms, data pipelines, and event-driven services.
  • Ensure integration architectures promote system interoperability, reuse of shared services, and reduced point-to-point integration complexity.
  • Guide architectural design decisions across engineering and platform teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and long-term technology strategy.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches to determine their suitability within the enterprise technology landscape.
  • Promote architectural consistency across teams by encouraging reuse of shared services, platforms, and integration patterns.
  • Ensure domain architecture initiatives (AI, data, application development) align with enterprise platform strategy and governance standards.
  • Provide architectural oversight for cross-domain initiatives requiring coordination across engineering, data, and infrastructure teams.

Architecture Governance & Review Boards

  • Define and enforce architecture governance policies and review criteria for new technology adoption, integrations, and platform deployments.
  • Ensure architecture decisions comply with enterprise technology standards, security requirements, and integration principles.
  • Provide architectural oversight across third-party SaaS systems platforms, internal systems, and integration services.
  • Ensure new solutions align with approved enterprise platforms and technology roadmaps.
  • Operate and support enterprise architecture governance processes including Technology Review Board (TRB) and Architecture Review Board (ARB) forums.
  • Facilitate architecture design reviews to ensure proposed solutions meet enterprise standards for security, scalability, interoperability, and reliability.
  • Ensure transparency of governance outcomes so teams clearly understand architectural direction and approved technology approaches.
  • Support the maturation and continuous improvement of enterprise architecture governance processes.

Technology Intake & Architecture Triage

  • Manage the enterprise technology intake process, ensuring requests for new technologies, integrations, or platforms are reviewed through the appropriate governance channels.
  • Establish and maintain the intake triage workflow within Ivanti or similar systems to provide transparency and visibility into request status and decision outcomes.
  • Review and triage incoming technology requests and backlog items, routing them to the appropriate governance forum including TRB, ARB, or technology leadership discussions.
  • Support prioritization and resolution of previously submitted technology requests, helping reduce backlog and improve decision throughput.

Enterprise Technology Standards Management

  • Define and maintain the enterprise technology standards catalog covering approved platforms, frameworks, integration patterns, and tools.
  • Prioritize technology standards for governance review based on operational risk, system dependencies, and alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Evaluate existing technologies against enterprise standards to identify duplication, overlap, or opportunities for consolidation.
  • Work with engineering and platform teams to document implementation guidance and operational runbooks for approved technologies.
  • Publish ratified standards and architecture guidance so engineering teams can confidently adopt technologies without requiring repeated architectural review.
  • Encourage self-service adoption of approved standards while maintaining architectural consistency across the organization
  • Maintain enterprise architecture documentation including reference architectures, integration patterns, standards documentation, and architectural decision records.

Software Portfolio Rationalization & Strategic Architecture

  • Maintain visibility into the enterprise application and SaaS portfolio, including licensing utilization and platform overlap.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate redundant software platforms, tools, and SaaS solutions across departments.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the enterprise software and technology portfolio to identify redundancy, technical debt, and opportunities for consolidation.
  • Develop technology rationalization and modernization roadmaps that reduce complexity, improve platform alignment, and optimize operational cost.
  • Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to plan the retirement, consolidation, or modernization of legacy systems.
  • Support long-term platform strategy by identifying opportunities to standardize capabilities onto shared platforms and approved technologies.
  • Continuously improve enterprise architecture governance, standards management, and technology intake processes.
