The general pay scale for this position at MOH is $16.36 - $25.17 per hour. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.


Responsibilities

The High School Summer Internship in Oncology Social Work provides students with a structured, supervised introduction to the psychosocial services offered within a comprehensive cancer care setting. Under the guidance of a licensed social worker, interns will observe and learn about the role of oncology social work in supporting patients and families through resource coordination, psychosocial assessment, emotional support, and care navigation. Interns may participate in approved nonclinical tasks such as assisting with educational materials, attending team meetings, and supporting program initiatives that enhance the patient and family experience. This internship is designed to promote early exposure to the helping professions while fostering professional skills, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of interdisciplinary healthcare. All activities will adhere to organizational policies, patient confidentiality standards, and scopeappropriate responsibilities for student observers.

Job Duties

* Observe oncology social workers to gain exposure to psychosocial support services in a healthcare setting

* Assist with non clinical administrative tasks such as organizing resource materials, filing, and data entry

* Help prepare patient education packets and community resource lists under supervision

* Support social work staff with scheduling, coordination of meetings, and follow up communications

* Greet patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner when appropriate

* Maintain confidentiality of patient and family information at all times (HIPAA aware environment)

* Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and educational shadowing opportunities

* Assist with special projects related to patient support programs or community outreach initiatives

* Perform other duties as assigned under the direct supervision of a licensed social worker


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently enrolled in high school (junior or senior preferred)

* Minimum age requirement as permitted by organizational policy and state labor laws

* Interest in social work, psychology, healthcare, or human services

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* Ability to demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and discretion

* Basic computer skills (email, Word, and data entry)

* Ability to follow instructions and work under close supervision

* Willingness to comply with confidentiality and privacy requirements

* Reliable transportation and ability to commit to scheduled hours
