Position Summary:
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the engineering function for an OEM specializing in paper container forming equipment. This role oversees the development of new products, enhancement of existing platforms, and delivery of technical support to both internal teams and external customers. The Director of Engineering collaborates closely with manufacturing, sales, service, supply chain, and quality to ensure products meet performance, cost, and schedule objectives while supporting the company's strategic growth goals.
Position Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Provide overall leadership, direction, and strategic vision for the engineering department.
- Align engineering initiatives with company objectives, customer requirements, and market trends.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Lead the development of new paper container forming equipment and related technologies from concept through commercialization.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and design guidelines.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and professional development opportunities for direct reports and staff.
- Work closely with manufacturing to support new product introduction, production readiness, and ongoing production support.
- Partner with sales, applications, and service teams to provide technical support for customers, including custom solutions and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with supply chain and vendors on component selection, tooling, and cost optimization.
- Oversee engineering project execution, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Drive improvements in engineering processes, documentation, and change management.
- Provide technical leadership in customer-facing engagements as needed.
- Represent engineering in key customer discussions, audits, and technical reviews.
Education, Certifications, and Prior Work Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field with 10+ years professional experience in industrial equipment, machinery, or OEM manufacturing. Additionally, 5+ years of engineering leadership or management experience and demonstrated success leading new product development and cross-functional teams.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong technical background in mechanical systems; working knowledge of tooling and electrical controls.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with customers.
