Job Description: Position Summary: The General Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting duties as part of the monthly closing process for the company and accurate and timely processing of payroll for 350+ employees. This role integrates payroll operations with general ledger, job cost, and closing activities, ensuring payroll costs are properly recorded, reconciled, allocated, and reported in accordance with the company's Accounting MonthEnd Close Schedule. General Accounting & MonthEnd Close Responsibilities:
- Responsible for monthly accounting close process in accordance with the Accounting MonthEnd Close Schedule.
- Ensure payroll for the month is processed, posted, reviewed, and finalized prior to close deadlines.
- Post payrollrelated journal entries, including wages, employer payroll taxes, fringe benefits, deductions, and accruals, ensuring proper period recognition.
- Verify payroll costs are accurately recorded in the general ledger and correctly mapped to jobs, departments, and cost codes.
- Reconcile and analyze payrollrelated balance sheet accounts resolving differences prior to close, including:
- Wages payable
- Payroll tax liabilities
- Benefit and deduction liabilities
- Assist with laborrelated reclassification and allocation entries during close, including:
- Indirect labor allocations
- Indirect fringe allocations
- Departmentspecific labor reclassifications (e.g., shop or indirect departments)
- Support job cost accuracy by verifying labor, fringe, and burden allocations after payroll processing.
- Coordinate with the Accounting Manager and Controller to address payroll impacts to:
- Job cost reports
- WIP schedules
- General ledger trial balance
- Analyze payroll expenses for variances as part of the month-end analysis.
- Maintain organized payroll and close support schedules to meet audit and internal control requirements.
- Analyze subledger and GL close activities where payroll timing affects accruals or financial reporting.
- Respond timely to closerelated requests and adjust payroll entries as needed to ensure deadlines are met.
- Recommend process improvements to strengthen payroll controls, reconciliations, and close efficiency.
Payroll Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle, in-house weekly and bi-weekly payroll for 350+ Team Members
- Enter, manage, and submit certified payroll for all public works projects weekly using the LPC Tracker website.
- Manage timecard processing using Procore time tracking and import payroll data into ERP system accounting software.
- Enter and maintain timecards for team members as needed.
- Calculate and process manual payrolls for terminations, special payments, and garnishments.
- Prepare and file monthly and quarterly payroll tax reports for 20+ jurisdictions.
- Update and maintain prevailing wage pay classes and payroll setup in ERP system.
- Process weekly garnishment payments and maintain accurate records.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from team members, project teams, and management.
- Maintain accurate payroll files and documentation to support audits and compliance.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to comply with the company's Authorized Driver policy.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Payroll: 3 years (Preferred)
- Construction accounting and job cost exposure: Preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- 3+ years of payroll experience preferred; construction or jobcost accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of payroll accounting and general ledger impact.
- Experience with Viewpoint, Procore, or similar construction accounting systems preferred.
- Strong Excel skills, including basic formulas and spreadsheet setup.
- Ability to perform routine arithmetic calculations accurately and efficiently.
- Detailoriented with strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
