Water/Utilities Project Engineer

SUMMARY

The Water/Utilities Civil Engineer will be responsible for performing engineering analyses, design, and permitting activities related to potable water, recycled water, and wastewater systems. The role requires 7+ years of progressively responsible experience and involves technical project work, limited project management, and mentorship of junior staff. Work will include preparation of design documents, pressurized system hydraulic models, and technical reports, as well as support for client coordination and permitting efforts. Experience with pump station and lift station design is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform hydraulic modeling and analyses for pressurized water distribution and recycled water systems using WaterCAD and/or similar tools.
  • Prepare technical studies, design reports, hydraulic model reports, and other project documentation for water, recycled water, and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Support design of potable water and recycled water infrastructure projects, including pressurized pipelines, pump stations, water treatment facilities, and related appurtenances.
  • Permitting and entitlements for new developments, including coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment facilities, wastewater lift stations, and force mains a plus.
  • Draft and review plans, profiles, and details using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam.
  • Assist in project management, including scheduling, budget tracking, and subconsultant coordination.
  • Collaborate with senior staff on proposals, technical reports, and presentations.
  • Mentor interns and entry-level staff on drafting, design, and technical skills.
  • Conduct occasional field visits for inspections, field checks, and data collection.
  • Support business development efforts including proposals, client presentations, and pursuit strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in potable water, recycled water, and/or wastewater engineering.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software for pressurized water distribution systems
  • Proficiency with WaterCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam a must.
  • I.T. certification required; P.E. license in California preferred (or ability to obtain within 1-2 years)



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires a combination of office-based work and occasional travel to field locations.



  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk and operate a computer.


  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and scanners.
  • Visual ability to read documents, spreadsheets, and computer screens.


  • Ability to occasionally walk or stand on uneven or unpaved surfaces, including construction zones and undeveloped land.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, or climb during site visits or inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment or documents weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and via digital platforms.
  • Ability to drive to project sites and spend time outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to visually observe site features and interpret plans, diagrams, and environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job.
