DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant, you will perform specialized clerical bookkeeping to maintain firearm dealer accounts across the Commonwealth. This role involves reviewing surcharge remittance forms and sales records for accuracy and regulatory compliance, making necessary adjustments, and posting corrected data to dealer ledgers. You will reconcile Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) transaction logs with dealer reports and conduct thorough research to resolve delinquent accounts or missing payments. Additionally, you will maintain professional communication through telephone and written correspondence with dealers to provide balance updates, resolve account discrepancies, and offer guidance on standard operating procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be willing to work onsite full-time. Teleworking is not an option as part of this position's work schedule.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
