Job Summary
This position is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing peer mentoring and undergraduate research student engagement programs to ensure that the Office of Undergraduate Education's ( OUE) peer mentoring and undergraduate research programs are managed in an efficient and effective manner, with the goal of increased student sense of belonging, success, retention, and various other academic outcomes. Position reports to the Senior Director of Undergraduate Programs in the Office of Undergraduate Education.
About the Freshman and Transfer Mentor Programs

  • College presents many challenges, both academically and socially. The Freshman Mentor Program was created to connect incoming students with current UT Dallas students. Mentees who choose to join the Freshman Mentor Program are paired with a student mentor to help ease the transition to UT Dallas, specifically during their first two semesters at the University. Peer mentors at UT Dallas work to support new students in the following three areas: leadership development, academic support, and social engagement. In addition to providing personalized support for each mentee, the Freshman Mentor Program hosts service, academic, and social events throughout the year for participants to engage on-campus and with the program more deeply.


  • The Transfer Mentor Program was created to connect incoming transfer students with current UT Dallas students who also transferred to the University. Transfer students who choose to join the Transfer Mentor Program are paired with a student mentor to help ease the transition to UT Dallas, specifically during their first two semesters at the University. In addition to providing personalized support for each mentee, the Transfer Mentor Program hosts service, academic, and social events throughout the year for participants to engage on-campus and with the program more deeply.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field and three plus years relevant professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree in related area from an accredited university preferred, with five or more years of relevant experience working with student and programs in higher education, or related community programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with how to assess and achieve higher education desired student outcomes through policy and data analysis (i.e. retention, etc.). Working with undergraduate student populations and specific sub-populations. Supporting undergraduate research programs in higher education. Supporting peer mentoring programs in higher education
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the Transfer Mentor Program, including marketing, participant selection, training, meetings, and events.
  • Provide supplementary support for the Freshman Mentor Program.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support program growth and student success, and maintain program standards and certifications.
  • Assist with all Office of Undergraduate Education undergraduate research initiatives, including event planning and execution, and program promotion through outreach, tabling, and presentations.
  • Coordinate and manage the Undergraduate Research Scholar Awards program.
  • Serve as Co-Managing Editor of the Exley undergraduate research journal, overseeing student staff and publication processes
  • Supervise student workers and student leadership teams in planning and executing program activities.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for student inquiries and provide timely support and solutions.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program data to assess effectiveness and drive improvements.
  • Represent all assigned and various Office of Undergraduate Education programs at campus events, committees, and presentations.
  • Innovate, research, and implement emerging and best practices to enhance program impacts.
  • Perform administrative duties and additional responsibilities as assigned, including evening and weekend event support
  • Demonstrate consistent attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, commitment to productive teamwork, and support of the Office of Undergraduate Education's mission focused on the academic success of all students at UT Dallas.

Remote Notice: A hybrid remote work schedule may be available, and completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment. Use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Employee must be located within the DFW area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
