The LVN utilizes the nursing process to assess and identify the individual needs of patients through observation of disease symptoms, emotional state, laboratory reports, cultural and socio-economic background and response to medical regimen and treatment. Additionally, they are required to learn and apply the Patient-Centered Medical Home Standards and Ten Building Blocks of Primary Care. In collaboration with the Medical Home health care providers, nurses, and medical assistants the LVN will also assume clinical responsibility for administration of medications/vaccines, lab result review and monitoring, treatments and procedures pertinent to pediatric & adult primary care such as ear irrigations, wound care and urethral catheterization, as well as patient education.

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years LVN experience
  • Experience in an outpatient care setting- Primary Care Clinic or Family Medicine
  • California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
  • Must have blood withdraw/ venipuncture certification
  • Competence in vaccine storage, inventory control and proper documentation.
  • Must be flexible to orient and float at other UCSF locations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Epic experience
  • Assisting in minor procedures in a clinic setting

License/Certification

  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Must have blood withdraw/ venipuncture certification

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
