Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $105,940 - $140,375. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as a Staff Process Engineer!

The Polymer Products operations at S&C is a world leader for manufacturing medium voltage epoxy insulation products. The engineering team at Polymer Products supports operations team to achieve the yield goals through process controls, mold designs, and trainings; seeks continuous improvement with manufacturing processes, mold designs, tools, and equipment through improvement and capital projects; addresses and resolves quality concerns observed with manufactured products through problem-solving activities; and supports new product/process development through design, procurement, installation, and startup.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Performance: Develop detailed specifications for custom equipment, ensuring accurate translation throughout procurement, construction, installation, and startup.

  • Data Collection & Analysis: Expert in problem-solving, analyze complex data sets for root cause analysis or to optimize manufacturing performance and validate design or process decisions.

  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Oversee process improvements and automation projects to enhance yield, reduce scrap, and improve reliability across production systems.

  • Project Management: Lead high-impact projects involving automation, advanced process controls, and innovative manufacturing techniques to improve efficiency and product quality. Drive initiatives ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams and external vendors to validate equipment designs, conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and ensure compliance with performance standards. Serve as a technical liaison to leadership, providing clear feedback and implementing effective strategies.

  • Technical Expertise & Development: Lead as a subject matter expert for at least one core process area, often multiple, with deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience. Develop best practices, advise on technical standards, and lead efforts to embed advanced engineering principles across the organization.

  • Coaching & Training: Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers, and communicate complex engineering concepts in clear, understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Advanced Design & Development: Design and develop complex systems (process equipment) and production line for existing products or new products to meet business needs while accounting for tooling and process constraints. Oversee creation of detailed specifications for custom equipment and molds, ensuring accurate translation during procurement, build, installation, and startup.

  • Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

  • Collaborate with the R&D team on development efforts and needs.

  • Qualify new tooling/process equipment for manufacturing by obtaining dimensional and validations test results on manufactured product.

  • Visit suppliers for support or Factory Acceptance Testing.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What you'll Need To Succeed:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university majoring in Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering or a related major.

  • Preferred: Masters in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials or other related Engineering field

  • 7-10 Years of experience in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial engineering.
  • Experience in injection molding processes.

  • Experience in working with hydraulic and servo control systems.

  • Excellent skills in effective problem-solving and leading project planning initiatives. Able to communicate across some levels of the organization related to concepts of supply-chain and production.
  • A great understanding of various manufacturing technologies and methods, preferably within the process or chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation), able to partner with and communicate with customers, both technical and non-technical.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the quality function.
  • Excellent organizational planning, coordinating internal and external resources, and juggling key demands.
  • Sound business sense and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed actions, solve complex problems, and drive learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, including the flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
  • Great computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and Access, or other similar systems. Including great data analysis skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in Automatic Pressure Gelation or Reaction Injection Molding.

  • Familiar with Electrical Grid Distribution Products.

  • Experience in PLC and ladder logic.

  • Strong organization and presentation skills.

  • Exposure to product or process improvement through experimentation and/or statistical analysis.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, P&ID's, schematics, PLC Programming or other process related schematics.

  • Exposure to using CAD systems like SolidEdge and AutoDesk.
