Overview Veeco is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to lead strategic sourcing for New Product Introduction (NPI) and platform enhancements of advanced semiconductor capital equipment, including MOCVD, ALD, and Ion Beam systems. This role owns end-to-end commodity strategy where supply continuity, technology alignment, and supplier performance directly impact innovation, scalability, and customer delivery.
This position operates as a strategic business partner-not a transactional buyer. You will influence design and technology decisions, shape a global supplier ecosystem, and develop sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, risk, and long-term scalability in a highly technical, fast-evolving market. The role requires close collaboration with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing for assigned commodities, supporting NPI programs and tool platform enhancements.
- Own and execute end-to-end commodity strategies, from market intelligence through supplier execution.
- Develop and manage long-term supplier partnerships to drive performance, mitigate risk, and enable continuous improvement.
- Negotiate complex commercial agreements covering pricing, capacity, lead times, technical requirements, and scalability.
- Act as sourcing lead within NPI program teams, aligning sourcing strategies with product roadmaps and milestones.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain to balance cost, quality, innovation, and supply continuity.
- Drive early supplier engagement to influence design for manufacturability (DFM), cost, lead time, and scalability.
- Develop technical understanding of electro-mechanical subsystems, including vacuum hardware, precision components, and electrical assemblies.
- Translate engineering drawings and specifications into effective sourcing strategies.
- Select, qualify, and manage suppliers supporting complex semiconductor capital equipment.
- Identify sourcing risks and support the resolution of supply issues impacting development or production schedules.
- Conduct supplier site visits, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
- Present sourcing updates, risks, and recommendations to leadership as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or similar preferred), Business, or Supply Chain.
- Minimum of 8 years of overall experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or supply chain roles with at least 3 years directly supporting NPI programs for complex engineered or capital equipment products.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience sourcing electro-mechanical assemblies and custom components; semiconductor capital equipment experience is a strong plus.
- Solid understanding of purchasing fundamentals, including supplier selection, cost analysis, and negotiation.
- Proven ability to manage supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, and service.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables and complex formulas.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint with the ability to create executive-level presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in semiconductor, vacuum, or advanced manufacturing environments preferred.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% domestically, with occasional international travel.
