Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider Area Manager (APP) to join our Gulf Coast North Region team! This full-time position will provide support to APPs in this region. Typical work week will be split with clinical responsibilities two (2) days a week and managerial responsibilities three (3) days a week. This position is Monday through Friday, 8:00a - 5:00p.

What does the APP Manager do?

Provides APP advocacy and support within the defined area. Experienced individual with oncology expertise, clinical and operational experience in APP Services to identify and execute on a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that optimize the support of existing and newly acquired practice locations with three primary goals:


1) Develop ongoing support structure and feedback for APPs
2) Strengthen APP operational and financial performance advising on best-practices and implementation
3) Improve the quality of multi-disciplinary high-value care through maximizing the role of APPs within the defined area.

Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (included but not limited to):

Leadership and Managerial Oversight

  • Advise leadership on evolving trends that impact APPs in the respective area
  • Define performance objectives to promote professional growth and development
  • Perform ongoing evaluation, feedback, and conduct end of year performance reviews
  • Handle all people-management responsibilities including hiring of APPs, recommendations for merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions
  • Demonstrate leadership through participation in site visits to ensure the success of each APP and provide support to enhance the knowledge and foundation of clinical skills and practice to improve patient care
  • Maintains working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Collaboration and Operational Development

  • Collaborate with team to:
  • Develop APP-specific policy and procedure
  • Define and develop key opportunities for APP leadership and growth
  • Onboarding process for newly hired APPs
  • Collaborate on current and ongoing APP projects and initiatives
  • Ongoing evaluation of utilization and productivity
  • Work across the defined area to implement and measure various program development
  • Understand the financial impacts and proforma reviews of various APP models
  • Maintains working knowledge of managed care and value-based care impacts on the APP role
  • Assist with recruitment strategies

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Up to 40-50% of time to be allocated to patient care as determined by needs of the position and/or senior leadership team.
  • Under supervision and in collaboration with practice physicians, involved in the care of individuals, families, and patient groups who are dealing with cancer or other related diagnosis. This care may be in clinic or virtually, via telemedicine.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicated. Performs procedures and /mentors trains other providers
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides education.
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Consistently incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Often provides case management for patients and their families.
  • Often serves as a resource for nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials.
  • Provides palliative care for the patient and their families as needed.
  • As subject matter expert, promotes/provides staff education.
  • Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals and weekend or after-hours calls.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to the community, providing education and resources as needed.
  • Likely to supervise the activities of clinical nursing and support staff.
  • Mentor new advanced practice providers and may precept APP students.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Oncology/hematology experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Outlook
  • Must be willing and able to travel at least 25% to fulfill the requirements of the job
  • Excellent people and project management skills
  • This is a full-time position only

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
  • This position requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, preferably in a community oncology, or related clinical environment.
  • Current registration and unincumbered state licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner with the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) preferred.
  • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

OR

Physician Assistant

  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • This position requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience as a practicing Physician Assistant, preferably in a community oncology, or related clinical environment.
  • Current and unincumbered state licensure as a Physician Assistant with the Texas Medical Board.
  • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

OR

Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing school and successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
  • This position requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience as a practicing Clinical Nurse Specialist, preferably in a community oncology, or related clinical environment.
  • Current registration and unincumbered state licensure as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN) preferred.
  • Current basic life support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
