Position Summary

The Communications manager for Johns Hopkins Medicine drives the development and execution of strategic public relations and media-focused communications programs that advance institutional and external objectives. In this role you will design, implement and monitor media strategies and PR initiatives that raise the profile of The Johns Hopkins Medicine, inform and engage employees and faculty, and support key institutional goals. You will identify and pilot innovative media approaches, including earned, owned, and social channels-and develop systems and process improvements to increase reach, message clarity, media readiness, and crisis preparedness across JHM. Serving as a liaison and consultant to business units and leaders, you will ensure media and PR objectives align with institutional priorities, cultivate relationships with journalists and media outlets, and support the director in creating and operationalizing communications guidelines, media policies, and response procedures across the enterprise.

On call rotation to be available for emergent institutional messaging needs



Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, writing or related field required. (A concentration in the international or health care fields highly desirable). Masters preferred.



Work Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in journalism, media/public relations, or communications; print and web writing and editing and project management. Demonstrated experience in supervising and implementing effective communications plans and strategies, and in editing/writing high-quality communications pieces for external variety of audiences.

Salary Range: Minimum 38.44/hour - Maximum 67.77/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
