DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high-quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.

The UC San Diego SHW cluster, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind, and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), SHW Administration (ADM), and Strategic Planning, Innovation and Research (SPIR), & Student Health Assessments and Analytics (SHAA).

SHS provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to over 45,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. SHS staff consists of a diverse team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHS provides integrated clinical services to address the medical needs of individual students, as well as to foster the well-being of the students as a whole person. In addition, SHS oversees the public health needs of the campus community. SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and is fully committed to self-examination, peer review, and quality control through the utilization of data, outcome, and patient experience measurements.

Rehabilitation services provides physical and/or occupational therapy modalities and generally involve the wellness, prevention, rehabilitation, and optimization of individuals' physical, sensory, and mental capabilities and functional abilities and outcomes. The rehabilitation supervisor functions as part of the interdisciplinary care team while also providing direct supervision to rehabilitation professional staff and skilled technical employees in any rehabilitation discipline (physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.) as well as oversight and/or supervision of rehabilitation support staff. This position is responsible for serving as the subject matter expert and advisor for the unit and department and cluster leadership and administration; analyzing and resolving problems; monitoring for and escalating (as needed) clinical, program, and/or operational issues; developing, maintaining, interpreting, and enforcing policies and procedures; overseeing employee training, compliance, productivity and performance; creating staff schedules; maintaining clinical coverage; and, ensuring accountability, efficiency, and stewardship of departmental resources in compliance with departmental and cluster goals and objectives.

MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess and maintain active licensure to practice as a Physical Therapist as determined by the Physical Therapy Board of California.

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience supervising daily operations of a rehabilitation services department including direct supervision of employees. Must possess the ability to apply principles of rehabilitation services in the Student Health clinic setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Demonstrates subject matter knowledge of a rehabilitation service. Ability to apply principles to designated setting to ensure operations meetregulatory standards.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of professional behavior.

  • Solid knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge and ability to monitor compliance with relevant rehabilitation patient care / equipment management federal, state and local laws and regulations.

  • Knowledge of campus and community agencies most frequently used in ambulatory care.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training, mentoring and guiding employees in rehabilitation service techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve patient care services. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others.

  • Skill to communicate in a helpful, nonjudgmental, effective, and informative manner, in person or by telephone; excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy, in order to interact effectively with all levels of professional staff and patients; ability to work as a team member.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.

  • Ability to serve a large volume of patients rapidly and effectively on a scheduled appointment basis, within set time limits.

  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with assigned staff, patients, and interdisciplinary team members part of the rehabilitation patient care plan.

  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.

  • Ability to give and receive constructive comments regarding rehabilitation services, administrative procedures or other factors influencing patient care.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and members of the healthcare team across the continuum of care. Skills to actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.

  • Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.

  • Knowledge of organization's patient care documentation technology to teach others, recommend and oversee improvements and troubleshoot issues.

  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee, and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Demonstrated experience and competency with standard business equipment, computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, Microsoft Office suite, email and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the unit and the division.

  • Demonstrated experience in using electronic medical records and understanding of medical record management. Electronic medical records training is provided upon hire for this position. Epic experience is preferred.

  • Ability to adhere to and practice the mandatory University Core Values & Safety Standards of performance, demonstrate at all times the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior, and attentiveness to others; ability to uphold the UCSD Principles of Community and promote a positive and collaborative team environment.

  • As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.

  • Ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to actively foster a positive, welcoming climate, and value, include and support all in the UC San Diego community.

  • Demonstrated ability to participate in interdisciplinary committees and work groups.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters or Doctorate degree from an accredited school of physical therapy preferred.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years' clinical experience working as a licensed physical therapist preferred.

  • Experience in a student health clinic setting preferred.

  • Certification in related rehabilitation service.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to telecommute for work, if/when needed and operationally feasible, as determined by department; may have occasional business travel.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $108,100 - $204,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $51.77 - $98.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
