What to Expect
As an Electrical Project Controls Estimator at Tesla, you will be playing a critical role in the company's key construction projects at Tesla facilities in Austin, TX. You will understand cost drivers at the fundamental level while facilitating value engineering efforts cross-functionally, enabling Tesla to rapidly scale our manufacturing and compute facilities at unprecedented speeds.
What You'll Do
- Understand, develop, compile and present conceptual and high-level cost estimates for multiple construction projects at Tesla
- Develop detailed cost estimates as designs develop, communicating with various stakeholders on cost drivers and value engineering opportunities across all trades
- Use clear and efficient communication methods to escalate risks and communicate opportunities
- Create multiple what-if scenario estimates for program strategy and decision making
- Create and maintain Basis of Estimate to include; assumptions, inclusions, allowances, and exclusions
- Review contracts and purchase orders for cost verification and budget alignment
- Assist in the development of long-term strategies on estimating methodology, tools, and systems for high-impact, innovative CAPEX projects
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of electrical estimating experience required
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Excel, PowerPoint, and other industry-standard software
- Experience in electrical estimating from conceptual to IFC plus revisions, with an understanding of theory, National Electrical Codes, industry standards, and NECA Manual of Labor Units
- Experience in value engineering and cost modeling with fast turnaround results (e.g. delivering multimillion dollar estimates within tight 24-48-hour windows)
- Knowledge of how projects are built at the fundamental level, experience in the field and/or with construction management preferred
- At minimum, exposure to photovoltaic, electric vehicle, controls, telecom/network, low voltage, medium voltage, access controls/security, mechanical controls, and lightning protection
- Ability to work within a high-performance, collaborative, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines, aggressive goals, and demanding work environment
