The estimated base salary range for this role is $48,000 - $51,000 per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors (salary may be adjusted based on geographic location)

Armstrong World Industries is looking for a Technician. This role is responsible for the effective and safe management of the flow of test material sent by plants and AWI customers as well as the testing of ceiling properties. The incumbent will receive and prepare materials, track materials via computer systems, deliver materials to appropriate test locations, and dispose of posttest materials. You will be expected to communicate with customers to ensure quality and accuracy of the testing and disposition of materials. You will have responsibility to perform certain physical testing on material and assist with acoustic test installations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

Material Mover (~60%)

  • Use of Forklift to move material
  • Utilization of the computer to receive and track materials
  • Preparation of samples using wood shop tools
  • Basic product knowledge of ceilings
  • Verification of material descriptions provided by customers
  • Label and delivery of samples to test locations
  • Proper disposition of materials after testing is completed
  • Preparation of samples for recycling
  • Communication with customers about material issues
  • Communication with plants for recycle program

Test Operator (~20%)

  • Complete training to become fully qualified in limited tests
  • Prepare and mark materials for testing
  • Install and measure test material
  • Generation and auditing of test reports within LIMS system
  • Communication with customers

Acoustic Test Installer Assistant (~20%)

  • Move material using Walk Behind Forklift
  • Preparation of ceiling samples using wood shop tools
  • Preparation and installation of ceiling grid
  • Installation of test samples per ASTM test methods

Organizational Relationships

  • Receives supervision from TAL Manager
  • Helps TAL staff
  • Communicate with internal customers

Qualifications

This job will require certain physical capabilities for standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and lifting

The job will require daily lifting of bundles of ceiling material (40 lbs.)

The individual must be able to get in and out of a lift truck and can open wooden crates

This job requires the use of PPE:

  • Safety Glasses
  • Safety Shoes
  • Cut resistant gloves when working with Utility knives, grid, metal ceilings and other sharp materials
  • Utility gloves for working with rough or splintery materials
  • Others may be required and would be job specific such as hearing protection or chemical resistant gloves

Work Environment

Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment when entering the floor of manufacturing facilities based on the specific requirements of each location

  • The environment can be hot, especially during summer. NOT an air-conditioned environment
  • Expected to take test readings in a chamber at high humidity conditions (90% RH)
  • Environment can be noisy and dusty
