Neonatology Faculty - Assistant Professor

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Children's Wisconsin (CW), seeks a board certified / board eligible physician to join our expanding Division. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at the Children's Wisconsin hospital campus. We are comprised of nationally and internationally renowned, dedicated group of faculty and staff with a strong commitment to clinical care.

• Primary responsibilities include providing daytime and nighttime coverage of our level 4 NICU located at Children's Wisconsin by rotation with other academic neonatologists. Responsibilities include attending high-risk deliveries at our adjacent perinatal center with 4500 deliveries, teaching residents, fellow and NNPs and engage in quality improvement and scholarship activities of neonatology section. The academic faculty are also expected to cover newborn and special care nurseries of our adjacent perinatal center as needed and high-risk newborn follow up clinic at CW. The academic faculty also staff a level 2 special care nursery at Froedtert Health West Bend in our metro area, by rotation.

• Teaching description: The academic faculty have a strong commitment to teaching our pediatric residents who rotate through our NICU, Neonatology fellows and neonatal nurse practitioners. Mentorship is provided to trainees in learning the skills of advanced neonatal care and THEIR academic development pertaining to Neonatology.

• Research description: Commitment to scholarship in the areas of quality improvement, clinical outcomes and development of point of care ultrasound program are expected for this position

• High-level overview of patient population: Our level 4 NICU at CW admits 850 infants each year with broad diversity of medical needs including prematurity, congenital anomalies, genetic conditions and neurologic conditions. Our specialized programs include small baby program, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, neuro-NICU, Fetal concerns, and palliative care. Our high-risk follow up clinic sees over 1500 infants each year for prematurity and neurologic complications

• Any required or preferred skills and procedures: Prior experience in level 4 NICU with management of high acuity and complexity for NICU babies is expected. Co-management experience with pediatric surgery, cardiology and other sub-specialties is expected. The position requires both in house and beeper calls and flexibility to work across different areas and academic and community hospitals is expected

• Team dynamic: There are 22 academic neonatology faculty practicing at Children's Wisconsin collaboratively with over 50 neonatal nurse practitioners. CSG sub-specialists work in close partnership with neonatologists in the NICU to deliver the highest quality of care. NICU works in close partnership with Cardiac ICU and Pediatric ICU with mutual transfer of infants between these units.

• Locations: Children's Hospital, FMLH nursery, Froedtert West Bend

• Performs other duties as assigned by Chair or Chair-Designate.

• Clinical rotations in the NICU, special care nursery, newborn nursery and night calls and weekend calls shared with other Neonatology faculty

• Full-Time Salaried (Exempt)

Our Neonatology section has 38 faculty members, including 30 Neonatologists, 5 pediatricians and 3 basic science faculty members. Our section oversees programs at Children's Wisconsin and FMLH, as well as Froedtert West Bend, CW-Fox Valley in Neenah, WI, and starting October 1st, 2025, at Bellin in Green Bay, WI. Our section has robust research programs in lung biology, BPD outcomes, neuro-critical care, follow up, palliative care and parent and family education.

• Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent)from an accredited institution.

• Board certification or eligibility in Neonatal-Pernatal Medicine

• Unrestricted State medical licensure, or eligibility to obtain license, in the state of Wisconsin.

• Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful finalist.

In 2021-2022, CW and CSG had six specialties ranked byUS News & World Report: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; and pulmonology.
