Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Associate.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in our lab's ongoing genetic and functional genomics studies of complex human genetic diseases. The responsibilities of the role include cell culture, cell/molecular biology and experimental assays. In this role, the hired individual will learn and execute specialized molecular techniques including nucleic acid isolation from rare and challenging human samples, ddPCR, sequencing library preparation for genome sequencing and other genomic assays (e.g., chromatin accessibility). Additionally, they will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory including ordering, genotyping and breeding mouse models as wells as aiding with regulatory documents. This position is well-suited for an individual with previous post-undergraduate lab experience who is interested in playing a long-term role in the success of a research program. The position will work under general supervision. Ideally, the successful candidate will have previous experience with molecular biology techniques and an interest in human genetics.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lab Duties-General techniques in genetics and molecular biology (DNA/RNA/protein extraction, sequencing, cell culture). Under supervision, may perform more advanced lab experiments. Assist in ordering and tracking of laboratory supplies. Maintain careful laboratory notes of all experiments performed.
- Procedure/protocol development - Assists in implementing new procedures and genomics protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new procedures, or modification to existing protocols/procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
- Mouse handling- Assist with mouse breeding and genotyping for colony maintenance and experimental use.
- Communication - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels in the lab. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answers questions or obtains needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
- Judgement/Decision Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur, and through the application of appropriate policy/procedure, determine and recommends the appropriate solution for trouble shooting. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of their duties, asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up.
- Performs other research duties as relevant and assigned and works well in a team setting with individual responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a College graduate with a B.S. or B.A. in Biomedical or Physical Sciences. A minimum commitment of two years is required and placement in position may not exceed three years.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $47,033.89 - $52,500.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
