About the Job

Job duties:
-Assist in trial layout and preparation, planting, weeding, scouting, and harvest of field plots
-Collecting and entering field data on insect populations and damage
-Maintenance of insect laboratory colonies, including producing plants in greenhouse, feeding colonies, monitoring health and number of colony insects
-Assisting in bioassays measuring insecticide resistance in field colonies.
-Assisting in the establishment and maintenance of an insect trapping
network, sorting and limited identification of trapped insects
-Other tasks as needed.

Start date: May 1 or as soon as possible thereafter
End date: Sept 8 (UMN students eligible for continued employment during the semester)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
-Minimum age of 16
-Background check
-Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions, observational skills
-Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently
-Must be able to work in a wide range of outdoor conditions including heat, humidity,
wind, and rain
-Ability to sit, kneel, stand, and bend frequently and lift 10-50 pounds repeatedly
-Candidates must be willing to travel to offsite field trials periodically

Preferred Qualifications:
-Some entomological knowledge would be helpful but is not required
-Current driver's license (must be 18+ to drive University vehicles)
-Interest in agriculture research

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $20.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
