About the Job

This is a 100% full-time position located at the WCROC in Morris, MN. The position assists in the day-to-day operation of a Green Hydrogen and Ammonia plant within the renewable energy program. This includes plant maintenance and safety, as well as collecting and analyzing data generated from the plant. This position may require overtime, including working nights and weekends in coordination with the project team. This role also assists in center outreach events and facility tours.

Initial working hours of this position may require overtime, including working nights and weekends in coordination with the project team. Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.

Major Areas of Accountability (with percentages)

Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Renewable Hydrogen and Ammonia Pilot Plant (85%)

  • Monitoring the plant, troubleshooting issues that arise, coordinating with contractors for repairs/maintenance
  • Developing best operational practices and procedures
  • Developing and implementing safety procedures and protocols
  • Developing and implementing test protocols
  • Collecting and analyzing production data.

Supporting the design and installation of the Renewable Hydrogen and Ammonia Pilot Plant (10%)

  • Attending project meetings
  • On-site coordination for plant installation
  • Developing data acquisition systems and procedures.

Duties as assigned (5%) :

  • Will be expected to back up and cross train with other renewable energy staff members.
  • Assist with tours and outreach events.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a BA/BS in an Engineering Technology or Science, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or similar technical field.
  • Basic computer skills including experience with MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Some familiarity with basic shop tools and an aptitude for electromechanical devices.
  • Experience working in a research environment with data acquisition systems.
  • Logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills - especially with mechanical systems.
  • Ability to occasionally work for extended periods in outdoor environments.
About the Department

The University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) is located in Morris, MN. The WCROC is part of the University of MN College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences providing a tradition of excellence in applied agricultural research and education for farmers and rural communities in crop production, animal sciences, horticulture, water quality, organic and conventional dairy, swine production, and renewable energy.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $29.25 - $30.50 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

This approach ensures that compensation reflects the value and unique contributions of each candidate while maintaining equity within our organization.
