Responsibilities

The SUDC Counselor performs assessments, as well as plans and provides treatment and case management for clients with substance use disorders (SUDs) and co-occurring disorders (CODs).

  • Conduct assessments, including participating in the development of diagnostic impressions for SUDs or Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).
  • Create treatment plans for SUDs and CODs, including initial, ongoing, continuity of care, discharge, and planning for relapse prevention.
  • Make referrals.
  • Service coordination and case management for SUDs and CODs.
  • Provide counseling with individuals with SUDs and CODs.
  • Facilitate SUD and COD specific groups.
  • Collaborate and assist the supervisor in identifying programming and training needs. Work in collaboration with the national clinical team to expand programming and training to fulfill current needs.
  • Provide education for clients, family, and community.
  • Timely completion of documentation (may include assessments, treatment plans, progress and group notes, discharge summary) according to established standards.
  • Comply with professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Comply with supervisory requirements and responsibilities as outlined by the local certification or licensure agency.
  • Support and collaborate with recovery community members to provide on-site, off-site, and virtual community support meeting opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, License Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution in a health and human services counseling field, with an emphasis on alcohol and drug studies, preferred.
  • Current Certification as SUDC Counselor in the state in which services are provided.
